Why are Jcm 900's not as good as Jcm 800's?

I have a JCM 900 Model 2100 SLX - 100W high gain master volume. Everyone loves JCM 800's and I'm just wondering what the big difference is? It is that substantial? If it is what is the tone difference and why? Thanks in advance for the help.

I love the sound of a 2205/2210 versions of the JCM800

But I prefer my DSL401 to all.

All a matter of taste.

No I have never tried a JCM 800, but I love the sound I get out of my 900. I just didn't know what the key difference was, since I've never played one... just curious. ;-)

I would have to say that the 800 has a little better bass response
but it lacks the great High Gain of the 900 at lower volume.
You can over come the bass response on the 900 easily
by putting an eq in the loop.

I guess at High Volume the 800 wins out from what i hear,
i have never been able to open up either my 800 or 900 yet

I have the same observation on my 900...the ONLY way it sounded good was with an eq pedal IN THE EFFECTS LOOP, with the bass boosted. Without that, the 900 (at least mine) sounds "thin".

Ohh... strange problem.. I'm running an EQ in the effects loop. I have an EMG 81 bridge side and EMG 85 neckside. So I actually have trouble being too bassy... I actually have my EQ ran with the bass down a little. The 85 puts out so much bottom end.. I usually run with both my pickups going for whatever that's worth.

So are JCM900's not a good amp?

I am thinking about trading my ESP EC-1000 for JCM900 head, would it be bad? Is it even worth checking into any further?

No, that's not true ... the JCM900 is a great amp ... Even the Dual Reverbs ... I owned a DR 50 and it was freaking good ...

but ... I can't imagine owning a 900 instead of the DSL. My DSL is like the 900's bigger more powerful brother... :)

I would say it depends on the price :)

The price is trading my amber sunburst EC-1000 for it.

I paid $500 for it used, it has some mods, nothing major.

I really like the guitar, but band needs make me need to do something.

500$ for JCM 900? What kind is it? If it's an SLX and that's not your main guitar, I'd do it in a heartbeat.. but then again that's cause I love my SLX..

It is an SLX I'm pretty sure.

The mods really need to fix my s/n too! Wth is up with them not replying!?!

I wouldn't trade my main guitar for anything if I was you. I'm sure you'll have an opportunity sometime in the future to get what you need.

I've owned JCM800 2210 and JCM900 sl-x 2500.
With JJ ecc-83 tubes 2210-full stack really kicked ass!
But I just somehow liked more the sl-x head!
It had warmer sound, better bass and mids on any level!
Maybe it was becuase sl-x was 50w and it gave more dynamic sound on lower level, and wasn't too loud?
