No I'm still waiting on some hardware to make it easier. I don't have a lot of experience with the output side so I want to do it the easy way. Thing is though even as it is the boost channel has never sounded better. My LED started flickering and if I wiggle the input with the cord it stops. I...
I cleaned everything with D5 and have replaced all the tubes. I tapped around a bit looking for a loose connection but could not locate any. I want to do some mods to warm up the tone but I want it to work right first.:hbang:
That's weak. I was going to buy an new cabinet but I think I'm going to be spending a lot of money getting this old girl into shape. I had a 2205 years ago and I'm trying to find that sound again.:slash:
There is something screwy with the clean channel I discovered today. It's real choppy and very sensitive to pick attack. Like the signal is barely there until I hit the strings hard then the output is inconsistent and harsh sounding. I need to bias the tubes so it's still "down" but I sure would...
I don't have any spare el34 tubes. It's my first Marshall in many years. (I had a Line 6 with 6L6's) It has the original Sovteks from 1989 I believe. The gentleman I bought it from told me it's had the same tubes since he got it in 1995. Either way they are old and I want to replace them but...
Okay I forgot my meter at work but I pulled the tubes out and put a new fuse in and it survived. Put the tubes back and instantly the fuse is blown. I'm going dig out my schematic and look it over because I'm not sure what I'm looking for when I check the transformer. :hmm:
So here is what happened. The speaker lead shorted red to black, sparks ensue, amp now has no output. The HT fuse is blown tried another and it blew instantly. What have I done?!
and suddenly it works fine. The only issue now is the LED leads were a dirty and when I soldered it back and its a little flaky. There was clearly a crap connection on the IC and when I soldered the socket it must have fixed it. Thanks for all the help. I have learned quite a bit from this...
everything checks out except now I do not get the voltage on R10 anymore. I don't have my switch today so I don't know if that is making a difference. The input is plugged though.
I have not put the IC back in the amp. Do I need to do that before checking resistance at the points you mentioned or are we just checking the traces? The IC was soldered directly onto the board that's why I wanted to throw a socket in there in case I need it in or out for troubleshooting.
I had to put her down for a while. Too many irons in the fire and not getting enough of this :shred: in. I'm going to dive back in this weekend though. Thanks for all the help so far.
