Does anyone know if the FX loops in the re-issue 800s are buffered? Also, what are some tonal differences between tube and solid state FX loops? Any input would be appreciated.
There is something going on with my JCM800. At times when its on, it will start making this noise that sounds like a muffled wind off in the distance. It's a steady noise. If I hit the side of my head, it will stop it, but it re-occurs. It's not my cables because I've tried many different...
I liked the EQ better out front. It added more slippery gain and drove my preamp harder. When I put it in the loop, it made my sound louder with less gain added, and the last thing I need is more volume. I run echo in the loop because I use my head for overdrive. If I use a delay with a...
When no one is around in my house I crank it anyways and stand in my hallway right outside my bedroom. I still can get a good crunch sound at lower volumes without using a boost of some kind, but a lot of tone is from your fingers.
I have a re-issue but mine needs some work too. I think there is a problem with one of my preamp tubes. My amp makes this noise, it almost sounds like a wind, or gusty static. If I hit the side of it, it stops. I think that's a symptom of a preamp problem.
For a player who really likes the EL34 sound, is the KT66 overdrive that much different when both amps are cranked? I have the JCM 800 RI, and I love how the drive sounds when cranked. Is the KT66 saturation much different than the EL34 saturation?
Randy used to watch Van Halen on the strip every chance he got to see what Ed was doing.
There was an audio interview from 1982 where Ed got kind of defensive when they guy asked him about Randy's playing, and Ed said Randy hadn't done anything that he hadn't done, and he was just a copy of...
The Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates is a slightly hotter version of the PAF. It would do what you describe perfectly. I have it in my main guitar for the same applications you are looking for and it works great for it.
I have the Carbon Copy after selling the 616. I prefer the CC's overall tone over the 616 cus buffered was too bright and TB was too dull, speaking in overall tone and not just the repeats. The CC when turning the mix knob up saturates the signal more which I like. The repeats can also be...
Hell Yes! I do that all the time. The cops came to my house once and told me they write me up for Disorderly Conduct if I didn't turn it down! I was thinking shouldn't it be just a noise violation? Nothing like cranking a JCM 800 and laying off the pre-amp volume, especially with a pickup that...
I do the same thing when I use a rack unit. It sounds pretty thick, but it isn't power tube saturation. At first I thought it was because I had the master on 10 and preamp on 7 and it sounded really overdriven, but unless you have volume going through, its not going to reach power saturation.
