Hi,
I have a chance to buy some Vintage 30 speakers. According to what I found online, these are made in 15th March 2006? Please correct me if I'm reading the date code wrong.
Anyway, I thought Celestion moved their production to China in 2002?
Are these really made in England?
Thanks J
An old speaker vet I know named Doug Scarrow from Villiage Guitars in Saskatchewan (https://www.facebook.com/Village-Guitar-Amp-Co-155434527861836/) uses Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) to loosen cones/spiders from the basket.
He saved some 70's Blackbacks for me that had serious coil rub...
Ok thanks for all of that. I have never heard a Pulsonic coned speaker in person, so I don't have a benchmark to compare from. The paper does look on the thick side. Much like my late 70 Muellers.
Hopefully someday I can get my hands on some Celestions with Pulsonic cones. I want to hear...
Great thanks. I sent Hiwatt and Fane International some pics for some info.
The only question I have left is confirming the cone. Some people I have emailed say the cones are Pulsonic, but Bygone seems to think not, and he has a valid point being the Pulsonic factory burnt down before these...
I just took some better pics of the dates on the cones and frame.
I noticed these cones have very raised ribs. More raised than my 77' Celestion Blackbacks with Mueller cones. These also appear to have a wider coil and magnet compared to the Blackbacks.
Hi. I ended up purchasing the cabinet. I really love the tone. Clear with lot of harmonic sparkle to them.
I think they have Pulsonic cones? The last three numbers are 003. These cones are in mint condition with no coil rub at all.
The guy I purchased them from was 65 years old. He...
Actually the price of wood has really shot up as well. For example, the price of an eight foot 2x4 has doubled or more in the past year. Basically all building materials for anything are up.
Yes aesthetically they are a turn-off. I never touched one for years, then I picked up the 61' at the guitar shop and I am glad I did. The rest is history. Might be the last guitar out of my bunch that I would sell.
I should have paid attention to people I thought had great tone with SG's...
I love my 61' reissue. I dropped in a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and it sounds amazing through my 800 and JMP. The Dimarzio SD is the key IMO.
Not the prettiest on the block but the best sounding to me.
Hi,
How much would an empty 1960A be worth? I don't need this one anymore.
It is in pretty good shape. Not mint but the cloth and tolex are in good shape. I would say normal wear. Castors included.
Yeah I will try them out. The cabinet looks like it's in awesome condition for a 800. I might just get it for the cab. It's nicer than my 800 cab. Obviously could just sell the speakers if they don't sound as good as the Blackbacks.
I guess I should have just asked how they might compare to the Blackbacks. Who knows what I will do yet. They have to be pretty magical for me to replace my Blackbacks.
Hi,
I have a chance to get four Hiwatt Fane speakers. I don't know much about these speaker, and my online search isn't going great. I can get four of these for about $450 USD, or $530 USD installed in a Marshall 1960 A JCM 800 cab.
Any idea if these could be a good sub for my Celestion...
