    Marshall 30th Anniversary Series thread (6100 / 6101)

Exactly!!! THIS remark about CONTOUR makes you an 6100 Expert. (Plus your TMOHOLBBE (* of course!) The red channel has so many beautiful tone possibilities, provided one reads the manual or, even better, turns the knobs of its tone stack after pressing CONTOUR. *( (Tearing My Own Hear Out Loop...

Can't say much about recoding but used Balanced Out directly into the FOH mixer and we were very happy with the sound. Definitely more consistent and reliable than picking up a speaker w/ a SM57.

Never underestimate the addiction potential of 6100 series Amps.

Todd's video scratches only some possibilities of the amp. He calls CONTOUR the suck control. He obviously didn't utilize it properly. I love it because it gets me in foreign area like MESA and others. But one has to understand that it changes the tone stack, so you will need to balance it with...

Thursday is my 15. birthday. Just got a new carpet in front of my old worn amp stuff.

    6100/6101 (No) Power Amp Distortion?

I did some testing with both a Tom Scholz Power Soak (Version 1) and - very recently - a Marshall Power Brake PB100. The Power Amps of my 6100LEs (EL34) compress and distort very nicely even through the green Channel. Goal of my tests was to get good tone, not maximum distortion of the Power...

    Marshall 30th Anniversary Series thread (6100 / 6101)

The 6101 Combo is quite heavy (Guessing about 35-40Kg). It has the same handles as a 1960 4x12 for good reason. However the advantage is that there's less room needed for transport. The 6101 Combo's sound is great, but I would recommend a 6912 Extension Cab for stack like tone. The circuit of...

Looks we had similar experience w/ 6П3С-Е tubes. Yes the 6100LM is a hell of a great sounding amp. Provided one does some knob twiddling, other then "all to 11". Enjoy your beast!

    Marshall 30th Anniversary Series thread (6100 / 6101)

Have switched back to 5881s as well. I am running my Amps w/ 2 inner tubes without any issues for years, even though I prefer the 100W cranked sound of the 6100 through a Power Brake. But tone is plenty great even with 2 EL34s (or 5881 when I use my LM). 42mA should be OK provided HT is not...

What Marshalls do you folks have?

In other words: The usual old, used, torn, worn stuff some hoard in boxes, cupboards, drawers and basements. Very outdated, obsolete inefficient devices long deprecated but used to be the latest shiny objects decades ago. Even Pre-Rola. I love that stuff! 😉

Another 6100 rehab candidate. We should share transport to the meetings. "Hello, I am Tom... I have owned 8 of these heads, plus one combo. But I am doing fine, as I could let go 5 already." 🤟😎👍 @anitoli, looks like the first 6100 party you arrived late.😉

Have you tried another quad (or pair) of 5881 In the LM? I remember that I had one set of these Russian 6П3С-Е tubes that was particularly hot.

    Marshall 30th Anniversary Series thread (6100 / 6101)

I was referring to the current range (corresponding to the bias voltage). You can't get lower than 52 mA, right?

    Marshall 30th Anniversary Series thread (6100 / 6101)

Have you checked the current instead? Even though Marshall refers to bias voltage, I always prefer to check for HT voltage and current to set the power.

    Marshall 30th Anniversary Series thread (6100 / 6101)

As many 5881 Amps have been modded for EL34 and vice versa, I would make sure that the Power Amp is ready for these tubes. Having tried biasing 6П3С-Е in an 6100LM (original with factory 5881), I succeeded after desoldering the Zener Diode. That was enough to get the required voltage range. If...
