I never bother to nail someone's tone, I only care about making sure that my tone feels right. Pretty sure that's how the original players set up their gear, too. Lots of details just don't matter. For instance, imagine a paint stroke done by a master, which might look something like this...
The key difference is that the 100/45 has a SS rectifier, so it tightens things up quite a bit. I, personally, just set the bass to 0 and I LOVE what the tube rectifier does to the low end. One just should keep in mind that it's a low distortion amp. Add more distortion and the tone starts to...
One very common cause of bass loss are dirty/faulty FX loop jacks. I would clean those and check if they are zero resistance when the pedal jacks are out. That is if your amp has one.
One thing I would do, based on your images, is get rid of the crimped connections and solder the wiring to the power jack. Crimped connections can be and are very finicky, and they often cause a lot of problems. They are meant to make amps cheep, not better. This alone might resolve the issue. I...
Hammond transformers were used in all Traynor amps which have a reputation for exceptional reliability. Here is a video of Pete Traynor dropping one of his amps from a roof, and it ran just fine immediately after that. I have a vintage Traynor and it's built like a tank.
I used Hammond in all...
Hammond power transformers are some of the best available. They have been producing transformers for the music industry since 1917, and they know very well what they are doing. All of their transformers are made in Canada. The only reason why they are not very popular is that exporting them from...
It is a really good amp. One just has to take it for what it is. It's a vintage sounding low distortion amp, which is very similar very similar to the JTM 50. The key difference is that the Origin has much better controlled low end. Most, if not all, musicians back in the day complained that the...
I believe you made a good choice. You can put your pedals through the front because the Origin is a low distortion amp. That's how I use my time based effects. If I use a dirt pedal, I just place the time based effects in between the pedal and the amp. Never use my Origin's FX loop. I believe...
I don't think he's tweaking the results on purpose, but there's a lot of what one can do unintentionally, and placebo is a real thing. Also, the industry standard recording equipment is not HIFI, and it doesn't capture a significant amount of the content which you here live.
I don't trust his vids. I remember how he made a DSL sound noticeably better than a 2204. I couldn't replicate this in real life no matter how hard I tried.
Comparing amps based on somebody else's recordings is like judging women by sleeping with a rubber doll. I played both amps and the 50 watter is way better, It's not just low end, it has more "body", if it makes sense. Noticeably fuller sound. The recording doesn't quite capture this. Pre-amps...
Here is another option. A drop-in replacement, Made in Canada by a company producing transformers for the music industry since 1917. Their transformers are overengineered and can take a lot of abuse. I would take this one over a Heyboer, but I'm biased :)...
What happened to capitalism? You have demand for products which are very cheap to produce and which sell for nearly their weight in gold, and yet the products are in short supply.
Vladimir Lenin once said that "capitalists will even sell us the rope with which we will hang them". Well, he was...
Output transformers are very effective at filtering out low frequencies. You need a big iron to let the lows and low mids through. The small ones just don't cut it. This is why people say that high wattage amps sound "bigger". They have bigger iron, therefore more lows and and low mids. This...
