My '79 JMP 2204 idles at around 370V, whereas my '86 JCM800 (4210 combo, 1x12) idles at about 460. I had a 2x12 Marshall combo back in the day, and it was heavy as hell!
The other difference I know of is the horizontal inputs have the control pots (vol, treble, etc..) soldered directly to the...
I'm fortunate to "need" both! I'm in a southern rock tribute band (mostly Allmans, Skynyrd, Hatchet, etc..), for which my SV20 combo is perfect. I usually plug in to the high bright channel and bridge to the high normal channel. My other band is (mostly) 70's and 80's dance music, for which my...
If that were a 1x12 (4010) I'd be all over it! I've been looking for a 4010.
One question: The bias circuit looks odd to me. It looks like this might have originally been a 6550 model (USA) as there's a 47k resistor after (in series with) with the bias pot, indicative of a 6550 bias circuit...
Was your JMP a 1987 or 2204?
I'll never turn down a good pedal recommendation!
I'm from NYC too; Williamsburg Bklyn. Spent plenty of time on 48th St. Which vintage shop did you work at?
Thanks Eric. I saw a version of that; it was kinda hard to read. dtier and BlueX directed me to these schematics for pre-amp and power sections for 50w and 100w JMPs:

Thanks, Science. Would you consider this to be a relaible (definitive?) schematic for this amp? I know it's for 6550's but the pre-amps should be the same. I'm trying to determine what "stock" is. Thanks

Thanks, Eric.

Do you know the value of that cap? I'm wondering if it's the 100 pf cap (C2) cap referred to in the attached Marstran schematic that shows " *Not present on earlier versions of the circuit.". The schematic shows that cap in series.

Yes, I
Yes, I can demo it. I wanted to get some insight from the experts here before I make the trip. So far I haven't heard anything that would dissuade me from making the trip. At $2,300, the price seems fair given the current market.
I have a '76 1987 with 6550s and an '86 4210 JCM800 combo...
Thanks very much dtier.
"Stock is a 10k ohm cathode bias resistor. There is a pot (10k?) in series with what looks like a 1k ohm resistor."
I'm assuming that pot would adjust the brightness of the Bright Channel? I like that idea.
Right. I forgot to mention about the bias caps. It is running EL34s, and my understanding is those caps are supposed to be .08 uf? The Marstran schematic (below) shows the resistor in parallel with the bias pot is supposed to be 56K for EL34s and 47K for 6550s. This amp has what appears to be...
Greetings.
I'm attaching a few pics. Haven't played it yet, but before I make the trip I'd appreciate some comments/insights/advice. A few things that looked a bit peculiar to my newbie eyes right off the bat:
Gut 1:
1) the variable resistor at the first input stage on the board (left). Is...
