He doesnt turn it on much as the trannies are old ! Man you should be giving that baby a run every week to keep it healthy. I do with mine they are all stock orig. What a piece of history. Definitely a small box 50w head. Those two inputs on the far right are not factory fitted.
Fretted Americana would have state of the art security....... unless PhilX forgot to turn it on when leaving .
Seriously the owner is a wealthy Vintage Book dealer. He wouldn't scrimp on installing the best security. Definitely an in the know job.
Anyone check with the Harrisons of...
Imagine the re-sale on that. Or rather NO SALE.
I think the guy who came up with that design is now working at McDonalds
....... you want fries with that !
Yes around the time of the Stack.
Yours is a very nice old amp. PA , Bass , Lead were all very close in circuit. It can be made a Lead very easily. But the PA's are a very smooth amp, great tone with guitar.
Eric's old JTM-45 was a PA head...... Good enough for GOD is good enough !
I had a JTM-30 a long time ago now, from what I remember they weren't that loud an amp. Could be filter caps or blown O/T.
Servicing a Marshall JTM 30 Combo Best Tech in the UK John Chambers. Email or Call him.
Choke has been replaced. No bright mixer cap - Amp is a PA Amp. Lot of strange colored wires in there. Those yellow and green on two of the input jacks. All 0.1 Mustard Caps replaced on the board.
There were many JTM-45s from this era that were made with EL-34 Tubes and others with KT-66...
Possibly, but as he hasn't any experience with dealing with components containing high voltages or knowing how to trouble shoot. The simplest and best course of action is to get the amp checked over. If for no other reason to give it a service and check voltages, bias etc.
Kick Ass. Whether Ted plays a Strat or not means jack. It's your tribute to the man.
Have Teds guitar instructional DVD so funny, love him or hate him, he is one of the Greats of Rock Guitar. Highly intelligent and razor sharp wit
The Strat looks - KILLER !
Yes, you can't call it a '68 being a SLP Re-issue.
I wouldn't waste anymore time asking questions. Caps go bad and as they store and release the power as needed if they're bad they will make the amp sound bad.
Take it to a tech, nuff said.
Try JB Hi Fi I scored Alvins discs there.
Firebirds are great guitars if you play em right. Great stuff Alvin !

Very true. I have read many posts and seen many ebay listings from people taking Marshalls Insurance valuation to be the market value of their amp. Naturally their auction on ebay fails to attract a bid. As George said they also are woefull at dating Vintage Amps correctly. Post some pics and...
Best way to get market value is to list it on UK EBAY. Allow International Bidders by clicking on - Shipping Worldwide.
Collectors will buy it no trouble.
Fake. I have a Head Version from early '66 and has no production label let alone a date written on. That's totally fake. As mentioned they used a brown glue splashed on. Very visible on every (Genuine) JTM-45 from that period.
Those GREEN wires to the Inputs x 4 are completely wrong colour...
WHY would they fit 2 x carry handles on a 20w head. I have no trouble lifting my JTM-45 , JMP-50 Plexi's with the orig handle marshall fitted. Chicken head knobs.
I'd be sending it to a good tech rather than Marshall (if you're in the UK). John Chambers...
I can believe that. With so much Classic Rock made with Original Plexi's WHY
would you mod such amps at all let alone to that extent. Do it to a re-issue
not an original.
Those puppies were only produced in '67, what a crime. I'd rather throw a bunch of pedals thru that amp and have an Orig unmolested Black Flag than go this route and end up with a Swiss Cheese Amp of little to no value. Talk about kill the Vintage value dead. In Orig condition at least a $5000 -...
