Morning Everyone,

totally brand new to this forum - but im asking for your help. My dad recently passed away and had some SERIOUS vintage guitar and amps in his collection. My brother and i are on task to help sell it to take care of my mom. We are both recreational players and have our own equipment, but arent really vintage gear fanatics like he was.

Can anybody provide information on this JTM45?

Here's what we do know:
Its a JTM 45 MKIV appears to be 1966
Before he passed my dad told my brother to keep this amp safe and that is was worth "a lot of money." (whatever that means)
it has a replacement transformer, making it not totally original at this point.
it works.

What we don't know:
i have seen many MKII JTM45 Heads. and many MKIV JTM bluesbreaker combos. was a MKIV head common? never really seen one of those. Is it possible its the interior chassis from a bluesbreaker but mounted into some other marshall head??
What is worth??

also threw in a pic of Dad so you guys can get the visual picture. Thanks and appreciate any info you have for me.

Hi.
Sorry to hear . My condolens. I'm not an expert. I can't helps about amp value. Acording your pics looks like is missing tremolo preamp valve. I guess some Forum experts can be more acurate than me.

Yes that amp is potentially worth quite a lot of money. Not go out and buy a brand new Corvette money, but maybe $15k, $10k to $20k depending on condition and whether it actually works or not.

A new JTM45 reproduction costs $3K, and guitar nuts are all about vintage gear.

I would have it checked out by a reputable amplifier tech and see what, if anything, needs replacing. Ideally leave it all original or at least get parts replaced with vintage correct ones if you can find them.

Make sure any and all original parts replaced are saved and given back to you.

Some, not all by any stretch, but some repair guys are shady and keep perfectly good vintage parts and replace with less valuable replacement parts.

Hope that made sense Lol.

@tboone12 my condolences for your loss. Great picture of your dad rocking out. Wow, a Super Tremolo !! Yes, even with the replaced transformer, it's still worth a pretty penny. I've been away from vintage stuff for a while, the prices were getting up there. My first guess was 5-6 thousand, but apparently I was a little low. Don't be put off by the European prices, they tend to run lower because they are more available over there (a lot easier to ship over The Channel than The Atlantic). Those GEC KT-66 tubes alone are worth $$$, that's the kind of stuff unscrupulous techs would snag. And it's tube rectified, reminds me of my '67 JTM50 black flag transition era plexi so it's before 1968.

Sorry to hear about your loss, hope you can give his gear good homes that will appreciate his love of gear.
The amp from the pics looks quite decent. As a principle the trems fetch less money than the similar era JTM45 unless in a 'Bluesbreaker' combo.
The biggest killer for full value is the replaced output transformer as collectors will not be interested (unless they have a spare correct OT in good working order spare - getting less likely all the time!).
The german listed amp is allegedly original and probably asking top dollar too for a trem
Ideally for more info we would need bigger high quality pics to see the circuit boards etc.
You may find a buyer here but otherwise the best price will be to list on e-bay with dozens of pics and let the auction run with the promise to post robustly packed worldwide with insurance etc.

My condolences.

Neikeel is the man on here to talk to about this subject, with a couple of very knowledgable others, ofcourse.

Do NOT take this to Friedman or Marshall or whoever is out there, you can get way more accurate information from mentioned member, don't cast your dad's pearls before businesspeople.

Take your time.

Yours is 7340.

From my old database (gleaned from all sorts of ads about 15+ years ago) I can tell you that both 7391 and 7396 were also Super Tremolo. Notes say: "MkIV panel, "Super Tremolo" all original, white back panel".

Both were claimed to be '65. One was a combo repurposed as a head, the other was still a BB Mk1-style combo.

Love the photo of your dad rocking out. Sorry for your loss.

Hello tboone12,

It is a head chassis, only 4 screws to hold the chassis on the cabinet, the chassis for combo have 6 screws.

At that time the tremolo was optional, so i guess that the faceplate of the combo was used for the tremolo head.
