Im in tje process of buying a Charvel Model 4. How do you like it?

I'm a big fan of the model series, so I love it. My model 3 tends to get a bit more play time as it sounds a bit better currently (pup swap on the M4 coming soon).

There is a guitar shop in my town that had one, they may still have it if your interested?
Thanks for the thought! I've got my extra $$$ right now earmarked for something else...plus I'm kind of finicky about used guitars, always like to play them first hand before pulling the trigger.

I love Super Strats, not that much the brigth coloured pointy head ones, but mostly the "Hot rodded" Fender Strats, or Jackson, Charvel, etc based on the more traditional Fender looks.

I know this is blasphemous for many purists, but to me, a Fender Strat with humbuckers, and a FLoyd, is perfection.

I couldn't agree more. Would love to put a Floyd on that strat in my pic but nut width is too narrow.

Here’s my 2 Super Strats, MIM Fenders with Floyds. Basically the same set up on the 2, JB trembucker on the bridge, neck Hot Rails, the middle pup on the sunburst is a Seymour Duncan JB Jr. and on the white, is the stock pup with a black cover.

And also, my no.1 guitar, my sorry ass, all beaten up Squier Strat, which I’ve modded to death, and now is an HSH, I guess it can be also considered a Super Strat.

I have also an Epi Les Paul, with Seymour Duncan JB and 59 Pups, which is cool, but hardly gets played, I much prefer the Super Strats, the Les Paul is too bulky, too heavy, doesnt feel that good as the Strats.

Both have hot rails in the neck, white on the sunburst, and black on the white. ;)

Yeah, they’re great guitars, I love em.

The model 4 was my first 'Super' in '88. Absolutely love that guitar - I put in passives though. My mom is currently wanging away on it. The 'shred' neck has raised the play ability bar for me. I've owned a Fender Strat for all of 3 days NOT a fan - installing the worlds best humbuckers would be putting lipstick on a pig for me. I'm a huge fan of the Floyd for the fine tuning adjustment at the bridge. If FR would mod their product for the LP WITHOUT the spring system I'd be all over that for my Standard.

I bought a mid grade Jackson for the neck a few years ago and build a body for it. Weighs 12lb+.

I've been on a hunt for African mahogany with that sort of figure in a 4" thick x 7" wide plank I could book match for 3 years - still looking.

I will have super strat love "again"...very soon.

I had a MIJ Jackson back in the early 90s that I wish I'd kept. I never liked the pointy ones but I got a killer deal on it so I bought it and a year or so later I sold it mainly because of that. I didn't realize what I had at the time.

OK - the charvel mid boost circuit was a dog which I didn't find out until I'd ripped all of it out and put in a EMG 81 and single coil sized SAX in the neck. Better but still meh for my tastes.

I put in an SD59, Fender noiseless mid and a JB in the neck and like it much better.

The only downside is that Super Strats don't seem to age gracefully like a legit Strat or Les Paul. They kinda slip into this icky pawnshop look as they wear a little age.

My rare Aria MA-30 from the early 90's
It's a bit brighter in the pic than it is in real life.

I have had a boner to try out (not necessarily buy) a G&L Rampage or Superhawk for a while now. Preferably one of the hideous/beautiful 80s ones.

The Mexican Charvel So-Cal can be had for 500 in my area. I had one. It was comprable in quality to the Japanese version. I bought it for $500 delivered to my office by the desperate seller and I sold it two or three years later for $500, but it sat for weeks on CL. A nice guitar. Great pickups. Good build. Sturdy. No complaints....it just got no playing time so I sold it.
