I've wanted one of these for a very long time! It's dirty on the outside, the pots were scratchy as heck, and it was making some odd noises and cutting out then sounding awesome, then cutting out again... I cleaned all the pots, jacks and sockets and replaced the preamp tubes and it sounds awesome!

Hey man, congratulations! I just got the exact same model less than a month ago. Beautiful amps.

I love it. I’ve owned a few 4010s and always regret getting rid of them. My ‘68 plexi is my dream amp, but if I was on a desert island......a 4010 and a loooong extension cord.

That’s so awesome! I just bought a new amp myself, and while my first choice was a jcm800 4104, I’d decided I’d get one of these if I couldn’t find one seeing as it’s the same amp but 1x12. I ended up getting ahold of a late 70’s JMP 2104 2x12 combo that has the same if not very close circuit as these.... great amps!

My '82 4010 has the original tubes - all still very strong. The 6550 tube are GE like yours. The preamp tubes are all original Raytheon.

Wouldn't Raytheon 12AX7s be made in Japan by then?

I actually don't know. My Raytheon preamp tubes have a noticably different plate design than the ones you have in your picture.

Mine test strong and I have no complaints about the sound, so they stay in there.

I replaced the preamp tubes and electrolytics and the amp sounds good- nice and quiet with no funny noises.

Unfortunately, the power tubes are not even a close match- there's a 24mA difference between them. When one is at 68% max plate dissipation, the other is at 41%. The difference stays with the tubes if I swap sockets.

Yeah they used to build tubes to last years ago. Kind of sucks that nowadays with current production tubes you're lucky to get 2 yrs out of power tubes and 5 yrs out of preamp tubes.

Beautiful amp! Love the color.
I am curious about when you buy a vintage (80's) amp are the caps still good (if they are original)?
