So,I am finally changing the speakers in my replacement dsl, they are 2x8ohm.
I just need reassurance that I am correct in plugging in to the 1x16ohm socket?

If the speakers are series wired, then yes 16 ohm.
Check resistance with a meter - should be in the 12-13 range.
Resistance on two 8 ohm speakers parallel wired would be 3.something-ish.

Hi Fitz
Thanks for that, just as well as I have just been playing it for the last hour!
It is series wired and the 2 original 4ohm speakers were connected to the 1x8ohm socket.i was being cautious because my first dsl402 crapped out a couple of weeks after I did a speaker swap!

Where are you guys purchasing this amp? The 402? I don’t even see it on the Marshall website?….. I have a 40CR that I absolutely love and maybe would trade up for the 2x12 version. Not really sure why they come with those weird speakers and not the V type that’s in the 1x12… you’d think it would come with 2 V types in this model!. I have a bit invested in my 1x12 dunno if it would be worth the trade in even if I would find the 2x12 version. I’d have to add quiet a bit of money and yard out those weird ass speakers and install a real celestion like 2 V30’s or a set of G12T75’s or better yet 1 of each would be killer. I installed a G12T75 in my 1x12 40CR and some Svetlana EL34’s with some preffered series 12ax7’s and bumped the bias up to 36mv from the factory set 33mv and it’s magic. Hmmmmm just don’t know if this is worth the upgrade?
Hi, my first post :)

If I already had a 40CR but wanted 2x12 rather than buy a 402 I'd get a 2x12 cab and convert your 40CR into a head.

I have the 402, and sometime in the future will probably upgrade the speakers, but for now I'm happy

I darn't touch mine. Even though I bought a spare 402 for not much reason. I would like to experiment with speaker swap outs but i'm worried it is sensitive to mods.
Well Iv gone n done it... somefink a bit different me finks. Nice bottom n mids from the hempback really laid back 🤔🤣. Its a 50w and 8ohm. The Neo Creamback is, well, just creamy smooth!! Thats 60 w and 8ohms. Ive got em running in series and use the 1x16 soeaker load. No problems as of this post but only been playing about 5 hours total with em in. I shall update in a few weeks or so.🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Not to side-track the thread but is anyone having issues with quiet reverb? I can barely hear the reverb on my 402.

My reverb is just enough on full that it's not flat. However to find out what a better reverb would sound like I bought a TC Hall of Fame off eBay so it might sound quiet now I'm used to that. After a bit of mucking around I've left it like that set to "Church".

I have the DSL40CR, which has exactly the same amp internals but with one speaker.
The reverb on the 40CR and 100HR is notoriously weak.
It's a joke really.
But I've never really liked the one-dimensional spring type reverbs that come with amps.
i.e. only one knob for a linear 'more or less' control.

My 40CR is run in 4CM with a Boss GT-100, so I have several different reverbs I can insert in the FX loop.
Also, the DSL reverb is digital anyway, so going 'uber' digital with the GT-100 is no skin off my nose.
Far more control parameters too.

Trying something like the HoF that @SpaceStationNo5 is using, is probably the way to go.
But you get far more effects for your money with a multieffect unit that can do the 4 Cable Method.
You get to change the reverb type (and a $hit tonne of other effects) by changing patches too.
Plus, the GT-100 has MIDI for DSL channel switching.
2nd hand units only cost twice the price of a decent multi reverb pedal.

Those magnets make me sad. The bottom has to be as loose as Pamela Anderson's vagene.

You need new speakers quick.

Hey there, lot's of great advice about speakers that I might take on board but I'm just wondering whether that sort of jibe was necessary? I get a touch confused about some parts of humor in the U.S. I mean if she's all cool with something like that then all good, but there would probably be at least 1% that didn't feel cool about it. Don't mean to get offside with you.

I have just gone and bust a blackheart amp doing a speaker swap. I dont even know what i have done to break it.
Lesson learned is 'buy what you want and leave it alone'. Unless electronics is your thing.

I thought it was just me! Yeah I feel your pain. Heres my dope 402 . External reverb required me finks through effect loop. Any good verb pedals? I like the Andy Timmons Halo but 300 quid!!

I suppose it is a good thing that guitarguitar has stocked up on the DSL402 again at the sale price.
The one thing that narks me though is, I buy an amp that says limited edition on it, it sells out, and later they just stock up on it again. How is it limited?
