EVH 5150 III 50W inder $1K. vs Friedman Runt50.

I had 4X12 Cab I found under $500. I could not find the right tone. I suspect that 5150 has finicky tone.

I can see buying this and saying to myself, “What was I thinking?”

I have Friedman Runt50 I paid $1K, I am not happy with. Could be a tube. Should I sell that for a 5150?

I have 8-9 boutiques, to include Fargen x4, Granger, Nace, Fuchs and Lockard. I happen to like in your face uncomplicated circuits. 5150 is not that.

What speakers are in the cabinet? Speakers and cabinets make more of a difference to your tone than the amp does, in all honesty.

If the speakers suck, replacing the amp isn't going to fix that.


The world is full of 4x12s that sell for under 500 dollars. Every pawn shop has one they'd love to get rid of for 200 dollars. That's because
they've got garbage speakers in them, mostly. Finding one with some decent speakers for 500 bucks takes some luck.

My bad. I had EVH 5150 4X12. Just picky finicky tone. I was down on $$ and it was the first to go.

Now I've got GB/V30 mix, ToneTubby, 12C GB 2X12, 4X12 1960A Vet30/ET-65 mix. The WORKS!!

Should you get an EVH 5150III because you have an EVH 5150 cab?

I'd vote no. You should get the EVH because you want that tone you heard in whatever tuning on whatever string guitar somewhere.

If you want to play Gojira then yeah, for example. If you want to play 80s heavy metal Marshall tones, then no.
