Hello all

How original does it seem?

Acording to seller.
This original Gibson Les Paul 1956 has been refurbished in the 60s. The gold top color was changed for yellow and a Bigsby has been added. I don’t have the original bridges. My uncle who died a few years ago gave it to me as is as a donation on his will.
The serial number is not clear. I can’t read it, but it was possible to know the year on the pots ( see photo ).
The back of the neck has been professionally shaved a long time ago into an early 60s like slim taper. The exact measures are: At fret 1 it’s .8 inch and at fret 12 it’s 1 inch. Please see photos of the tool that measure it.
Beside these modifications, its still a 1956 with the same rich sound. The pickups are originals and all other parts.

Gibson Les Paul Custom 3 pastillas ""Black Beauty"" 1959

Acording to seller

Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty 3 pickups 1959 up for sale.

Here comes the chance to buy a dream guitar from the fabled year of Gibson Les Paul, 1959!

The guitar is a true "Player" and has been played and toured since it was built at Gibson's factory in Kalamazoo in 1959. Only 246 Les Paul Custom were built that year. This is one of them!

Considering how much it's been played and toured with, surprisingly few repairs have been done.

A crack at the head has been repaired and one of the pots has been replaced.

The control knobs are not original.

Of course, it has been refretted a number of times.

The last owner bought the guitar used in the mid-70s.

The crack was then repaired and has looked the same ever since. The neck was then refinished.

It is thin for a 59 neck and the dimensions are more in line with a 60 neck profile.

Thickness at first fret 20.77mm/.8175", width 42.79mm/1.6845".

Thickness at twelfth fret, 23.80mm/.9370", width 52.38mm/2.062".

I've been searching for info about neck profiles from the time and I don't know....

The neck may have been sanded down at the time for the crack repair. But there is nothing visible apart from the repair itself at the abruptness at the head.

Weight: 4 kg/8lbs 8oz

Frets:

height 0.68mm/.2677

width 2.7 mm/1.0629

Three stickered PAF original humbuckers that measure

neck: 7.30 k

middle: 7.66 k

bridge: 7.88 k

The middle pickup is not connected but fully functional.

Three of the potentiometers are original and one has been replaced with a DIMARZIO branded CentralLab that was made in 1980.

EIA code on original pots is 134808. So CentralLab manufactured 1958 week 8.

Why would you buy an old piece of crap for a million dollars when you can buy a brand new one for $2,500?? I'm just saying...

The pics look good but the price? Just above 7000 Euros? A bit too good to be true....

OK, so they have already been sold. Missed to see that post. Still I think there's something wrong. If not, someone must be quite happy

I didn't want buy It. It's a piece of roten wood. But It's interesting to see this old models and the history behind with. I never seen vintage models like this on eBay. All from Germany. Lately has been a lot of them on eBay. An other one.

Maybe a German Rockstar died and his family is selling all of his gear.
Maybe but all of them from different sellers. The black LP didn't sell It. Looks like the seller didn't like aution final price.

Pretty hard to authentic possibly. Reminds me of all the 17th century antiques made in the 19th century. Apparently there's lots that are totally considered authentic. Guitars too most likely. For awhile there thee percent of value on vintage gibson's was going up up up like crazy. Now going down I believe.

Worse still, Pre-58’s as a rule merely seem collectable by age/rarity, not spec.

R8, R9, RO… made every year imaginable. How many R4s? How many ‘54s-56s’ ended up being converted?

It’s cool because it’s an old Gibson, sure… but a refinished, neck-sculpted difficult-to-verify model deemed inferior to its later builds? What’s that really worth?
