OK...wondering if anyone has played with a JCM800 100w 1959 model yes..the 4 input one...?..i'm offered one in a trade deal and i can't actually try it first, and never head them myself. SO just wondering what they are like compared to a regular 100w marshall.!...

Thanks..:)

I have a '78 JMP 1959 and if the JCM 800 1959 sounds like it ....go for it.

The Marshall 1959 is my all time favorite amp.....the best amp head they ever made IMO. :dude:

The JCM800 1959 head is the same as the older style 1959. The big difference is in the cosmetics.

Any difference inside the head?...i mean was there much différence between the 80 and JCM model?

Age old discussion/debate.

What is the difference between the late MV JMPs and the JCM 2203/2204s? Arguably nothing other than the headbox. Yet, amps varied from example to example in the same year. Nevertheless, many favor the JMPs even there is zero guarantee of a (positive) difference.

The one you prefer is the one you buy. Tonally, they're the same. Its all cosmetics.

If I am not mistaken, wasn't there a difference in the filter caps between the earlier and later 1959's? (6 multisection caps vs 3)

I think the transformers was the biggest differences over the years.

I have a Canadian JCM 800 1959. I think it's 1986. I also have a 2204. The 1959 just sounds MASSIVE!!! I find there's so many tonal varieties with jumping the channels etc. I have an Alex Attenuator but I also put in a PPIMV which i really like as well. The 1959 cranked and attenuated sounds so full and round. It's really a sound i've never heard before. I find if i use the PPIMV it sounds more modern and very close to my 2204. The only drawback i've found for me is the lack of effects loop. I'm going to do a wet dry rig though which would solve that.
