Only you can diagnose yourself as a Marshall-holic. Ask yourself this...

Has my life become unmanagable due to Marshalls?

As requested....

I couldn't find a matching cab. I played about 8 (used) 4X12s with this amp before I decided on that one. It sounded the best, even though they all supposedly had the same speakers in them.

You just earned 5 respect points from me. Instead of going with what matched just to say you having a matching half-stack, you went with what sounded best (8 cabs is a lot to test too!). That's one sexy amp too - any way you can record some samples for us? :dude:

Ya, I can probably record some clips. I've got a modest but decent home studio setup. I'm in Seattle now though. I'll have to do it when I get back. I went to the EMP today and saw 4 of Hendrix's guitars including the white Strat, along with the smashed/burned remains of the Montery guitar and one of his Marshall head/Fender cab stacks and a Sunn stack. Also got to see Eddies red striped modded Kramer and his stack allong with plenty of other awesome guitar/amp porn.

I'll try to get some clips together soon though. Got some new tubes for this amp, including some KT88s. It's an original 6550 model, and I wonder if that's what set it apart from all other 800s I've heard? It sounded so much warmer and beefer with plenty of low mid "guts." I gather that lines up with the opinions of 6550s so maybe that's the kicker for me.

I did try two 2203s, btw, the same night I found this one. Nice amps, no doubt, but they didn't quite have the "beef" of this one, which I know goes against all common knowledge that the vertical input 800s are the better ones, but this one set itself aside from all the others. Go figure. I could have gotten the vertical input single channel one for a few hundred less actually. It was a significant difference and I paid for it. I know that seems backwords. Can't argue with love though. :)

I woke up this morning just past 3:00am ... my primary thought as I opened my eyes was "ok, I think they (the store) opens at 10:00, so I can check them out in about 7 hours" ... what is "them"? Well, I've been considering getting rid of my VM combo in exchange for a VM 50W head + 2x12 cab.

Anyway, I bring this up because I think this is a good example of addiction. While I wanted to go back to sleep, I couldn't ... rather, I tossed in a load of laundry & hopped on here to do some more "research" haha. Even though I know (at least I think I know) I won't exchange the combo for the head/cab version, it's a thought that's been dominating my thoughts as of late ... really, to the point of addiction.

It's now just after 4:00am ... only 6 hours until they open ;)

btw., I'm starting a thread on my little dilemma here, so if anyone with experience with both could offer a little insight, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm 19 years old and my first guitar amp was a Marshall MG15CD. My second Marshall was a JCM 800 4210 (that's the combo version of your head, cooljuk!).

I'm still in the limbo here of giving other amplifiers a chance but in terms of finding MY rock/metal tone, so far: JCM 800 and DSL 100 > everything else. And I've tried many a head, including JVM's, Peavey's (including 6505's), EVH's, Randall's, ENGL's, Mesa/Boogies and Bugera's.

Hey here's a story you'll like! My drummer and I were trying out a JVM410H last week and we thought it sounded like shit! Then I plugged the guitar into a VM 2266 and started playing some full chord hard rock shit, like Highway To Hell and some other improvised shit and I liked how reacted: First it was widened eyes and an open mouth, then an approving nodding motion with his head, and then "damn that's nice!".

Addict? Probably. I do hear other amps that I think sound good, but not better than my Marshall. I hear a whole lot more amps that sound not as good or down right ugly compared to my Marshall. BTW--most of the other amps that I think sound good are more expensive than the Marshalls.

The frozen hell called Canada !
yes , other amps sound good also , but there's just somthing about the tone and
feel of a marshall thats really " ON " !!! , the guys on this forum that have played
marshalls for years will truly understand that comment , the older marshalls could
sound a little different from night to night , but when they there ON , its a feeling
only us guitarists will ever understand .

god do i love marshalls !!!

Well, tell me about the addiction.

I always wanted a Marshall amp that goes with my first Gibson Les Paul, so first I chose a MG15DFX since I didn't have any knowledge on amp at all. Didn't even understand what's the difference between solid state and tube amp, all I knew was if a Marshall logo in on the amp, it rocks!!

Sold it, then get a JMP 2204.
Sold it, then get a Jubilee 2550.
Now, I'm GAS'in for a JCM800, which hopefully soon it's gonna sitting on top of the Jubilee.

Hello all, great site! I'm a longtime Marshall fan, and while I truely love my Marshalls, I don't think I'm addicted, but I often find myself trying to have sex with them, is that normal? Does that make me an addict, or just completely fu%#ed up? Anyway, great site, I've lurked here for awhile and have picked up some valuable info from all the knowledgeable members here. I've waited my entire life to have a Marshall, and at 41yo, decided it was time. A JVM410 half stack grew into a full stack, and a full stack grew into three stacks. So, yes, I'm addicted, and my wife has been pretty good about it, but, I've been pushing it a little bit. I've never been so happy with my sound. Well worth it. Now, gotta go, the Marshall stacks are calling :)

Hey GibsonSlash... looks like your Canadian 2204 has got a little blond in it. Pretty sharp!
