Late last week I bought a 1977 JMP 50watt MKII Master Volume Head online (avatar) and the very next day I spotted this 1981 JMP combo for sale.

The combo was so nice and at a great price, I couldn't resist, and drove an hour and a half each way to go get this combo.

The combo is totally stock, 6550's, G12-65's, and not a mark, tear, or scuff on the tolex, face plate, or grill cloth. The insides are just as clean.

Other than slightly tarnished handle caps it looks and sounds as good as I would expect it would have back in 1981.

Hope that my 1977 head is just as nice when it arrives later this week.

Two JMP's in one week...

Congratulations, nice amp. I have a 1981 JMP 2203. A great year for Marshalls IMO.

David

Thanks Michael,
The combo is the backup plan if the head does not workout, only 3 days to return the head to Guitar Center Vintage Gear. If the head has issues it's going back quickly.

Well the 1981 JMP Combo is the keeper of the two JMP's. It is in mint condition and sounds great.

I just picked up the 1977 JMP Head tonight, nice shape but is an early model (February) and it does not have the cascading gain change that was implemented in 1977.

The Head has virtually no gain at low volumes even with the preamp maxed out. Unusable for my current needs and it is going back to GC.

Glad I bought the combo when I did.

That combo looks like a great score. I had a friend that had one in the '80s and remember it sounding fantastic.

Damn - I was looking for one of these in my area for months without success. I gave up and bought an Orange Rocker 30 without any regrets. I have a '79 JMP with 6550 that is killer. Vol over 4 and the house starts shaking.

sweet! good luck with it, I've had both of those amps and kick myself daily for selling them.
