forgive me folks if i was.
yeah im a hands on guy usually. if i read about it and dont put it to practice
i'll forget it just as quickly as i read it sometimes.

ok guys, so i took the 900 apart to clean the pots.
i took a pic of the tubes. i have 2 that are kinda starting to blacken.
i dont know if they are just breaking in or if this is a early warning.
if i knew how to post pics here........... sigh.

That might be a normal color.

Signs of weakening tubes are bias drift, bad tone, noise, and smoke coming up from the vents. If your bias is the same as the last time the amp was biased, the tubes should be okay. Not to say new one's wouldn't sound better though. If you never biased the amp, it's a good time to buy a new quad and have a tech do it.
