Hi guys, long time owner, first time poster.

I have an 80v that I bought second hand from a friend in 1995, it's served me well over the years but it has had the transformer let go and it's burnt the board so badly that I need a replacement.

My amp tech has searched for a board and cannot find one. Does anyone have a board for one of these they could sell me? I'd like to get it going again..

Cheers, Dave.

PS i'll post some pics soon

:welcome: to the forum.
That might be a hard item to find outside of another functional 8080.
For that matter, the price of repair parts and labor may be nearly what another one could be had for, or even more.
Best of luck, but perhaps another Marshall may be the best solution.

Yeah I might have to get another amp, maybe convert my original to a speaker cab... I was hoping to find a ratty one that's knocked around but nothing has come up yet.

I have a 40V 8040 that I'm not using. Not sure if that would have anything you need...

Hi. Can you post pictures of what you called "badly burnt board"? Sometimes you can reconstruct the faulty circuit traces with copper wire and a lot of patience. Even the epoxy board can be repaired sometimes. If the amp is iimportant to you, maybe it can justify the work.

Unfortunately a different board and controls, the 80v is the same board as the 100w head. Thanks though!

Will post some pics from my phone soon, basically it had an overheating transformer which took out a few areas, I have thought of the possibility of what you're saying though.

I have a Marshall Valvestate 265. Works, but cuts out. I would sell this amp head if any parts were useful.
Only the amp chassis, not the rest of the combo.

Pasted here what my amp tech told me, I did have the pots replaced a few years back by another repairer who obviously didn't actually look at anything other than the pots! "This beast must have been overheating due to failing components for years!
the Main Transformer secondary winding
has blown and taken out the bridge rectifier circuit (please see blown pcb)
so the HIGH current side has failed, the dropping resistors have overheated as well
the diagnostic for them is as follows ;

dead unit no output lights on assess and quote Disassembled............. Found Fault
PSU Test: Check Voltage IN/OUT Between main Board
CHK VSC RL_ON/PWR_ONOFF Signal CHK................FAIL
CHK STBY Signal Circuit.................FAIL
CHK AC DETC Signal..................FAIL
CHK INV B+V ................FAIL Low voltage
CHK VSC Low Voltage ...........FAIL
CHK Pin Cables From PSU & CHK Ribbon Cables ................OK
MAIN BOARD TEST: CKH LED (If Applicable) Check
ON/OFF Status (if Applicable) ..........FAIL
Check Bonded Tabs/harness........FAIL
Oscilloscope and Huntron tracker TEST , scope output and dc offset DUE TO BLOWN PCB AND Secondary windings on mains transformer

RESULT: burnt/Failed dropping resistors , burnt Blown Tracks/Components on PCB, Non repairable
Blown secondary mains transformer and output components"

Really bites as I almost never pushed it past 1 or 2 on the master volume.. And it could have been avoided.

Is it a chance for point to point wiring to save it?

If you are in the US there are tons of these amps for sale.
Infact, GC used gear was on sale 10 percent off this past weekend.

Not so much concerned about them, but it seems there is a dramatic slow down in some retail markets right now.
Overstock or just bad Biden economics, not sure why....

But..
There seems to be quite a glut of music gear avaible to buy. For what is costing you in time and repair money, you could find another Valvestate to purchase that will do the job.
US dollors.. $200 should do it, maybe a little more.

I am not sure I know an amp tech who gets anythimg done for much less than $200

MG 100HDFX heads are bearly $139. Or even a G100R CD. Both good Marshall heads that deliver true Marshall tone.

I just saw a Marshall AVT 50 head. They sound great, have an effects loop, and look like the big heads. $199

Good luck

Yeah i'm in Australia, have already bought a DSL20CR combo to replace the 80v, but the 80v is just so wicked for metal tones that I miss it.. Definitely a bit of nostalgia there too. Second hand 80v do pop up every so often, I just need a cheap beaten up crap one to pop up I suppose, then swap parts over.

Just a guess, but if the 100V head chassis fits in the 80V combo case, there's another option to look for.
Or if you find the head, you've already got a cab...

I had the same combo back in the day and loved it.
Replaced the plexi head I foolishly bought thinking all Marshalls had 'Metal' tone built-in.

I have kept a lazy eye out for one in a condition worth buying.
But I have the luxury of living in the same country they were built in.

Hopefully a donor amp will appear soon.
Good luck @Redzone in reviving a classic (IMHO).

But I can attest to the 'Metal' tones available in the Mk II Valvestates.
Anything from the VS65R and above have a preamp tube.
Also Made in England.
