White/Creme FTW. I'd go the same route on your axe.

And what I was trying to accomplish (a modern take on a Classic)

this is strictly on looks...because your guitar has to look baddazz..,

tech info out of the way:

as you may or may not know, this beautiful '98 Honeyburst custom came all original with black speedknobs and Gibson 490R/498T pups w/ gold covers

I swapped out the speedknobs for gold reflectors and the pups for a uncovered Wolfetone Marshallhead/Dr. Vintage set

which looks cooler and will help me mass more groupies?

I'm a tad late on this one but gold all the way with that configuration. It just pops!!! I'm a sucker for uncovered myself and on my lp classic I have naked zebras, but my colors and highlights are way different. Everything on that beauty is gold....just let it flow man....let it flow

I prefer the nickle plated, chrome, double black, double white and zebra. I have one guitar someone gave me as a present with gold hardware. It has a great dark tone to it as well. I stay away from the gold hardware as a rule.

Nothing looks better to me than a black les paul custom with open coils, however in the case of your guitar, I would leave the covers on. The color that you have just pops with those covers on.

the edge is white so you can't have white and cream on the same guitar.
it's a lot harder to make something gold.

it's like putting 4wd wheels on your ferrari/ lambo. :( yuck!
