Now this makes sense.
So then pot housings should have a soldered wire connecting them to ground.
But I would still argue that it should only be on the shield ground.
In older amps, the ground and shield is common. The audio ground IS the chassis.
In newer amps (because of noise)
The audio ground is separated or isolated from the power supply.
So, it's not a new idea. They were thinking the same as you.
AND this is the basic method: (there are variations)
The power supply is grounded at one end of the chassis.
The audio is grounded on the opposite end of the chassis.
Between the two grounds, is the resistance of the metal chassis. This significantly reduces noise.
Now you will start to see "why" star grounding is not the quietest method.
