You Guys With Multiple Amps, Do You Play Them All?

I have 3 main amps and a combo that is the same as one of them. They are all voiced differently so they all get played about the same amount. I never could understand the point to buying several of the same voiced amps, if I have 2 with the same voicing and one sounds better or does more than the other, she goes. Same with guitars, I like just a few of really good ones that speak to me. If I don't use the stuff all the time something is wrong and it may be time to move on.

I play 1 of them most of the time, especially if I'm working on a song or just jamming out.

If I'm recording or working on getting the right tone, or copying a tone then I will play whichever amp I need.

Sometimes I just mix it up for no reason.

Mixing it up is fun, keeps you on your toes and out of the comfy zone and shows you how well you really know your gear.

When I was gigging in California I would gig both the JTM45 as well as the AC30. Leaning more to the 45. JMP was mainly used for recording. Bought a few Small wattage amps for the move East. Never really worked them in to gigging. For the past year Only thing that's gotten any play at all is the 2525h Haven't even opened the cases on the others. Sold AC30 before the move. Sold Or15 and Origin after I got here. Mostly been doing acoustic.
So until I find a viable reason to hook up the trailer, this is current amp.

I don't pay my DSL20 or Fender Blues Junior...or haven't in over a year.

I do rotate between my JVM410 & 205 each year.

That being said, I just built a single channel amp that will soon be used as the 'smaller set gig-rig'

I have 17 amps. I mostly gig with 3 of them in a rotation. I need to sell the rest but the local used market is terrible and I hate shipping amps.

I have around 16 Marshalls. I played them all. Basically, I plug into one and use for few days and then I use another one. If I wanna play heavy stuff I would use certain amps the same if I wanna play classic or clean. I have noticed different amps make you play in a certain way.

the same goes to wood tone. Some amps are better than other showcasing you guitar tone woods.

Currently down to 5 amps and they get rotated fairly regularly.

TSL60 Newest and gets the playtime because it's new.
2204 Ole Faithful, never a bad tone.
5010 Always fun but can be noisey
Super Six Reverb Amazing reverb, punch and cleans and good for bass(rocks with RAT also)
Lectrolab R400C Setup for low volume bass

This thread makes me feel so much better about having 5 marshall/ marshall style amps.

Now I'm gassin for a JCM 800.

My metroplex is my go too; have a 40's gibson amp that i practice with that is about the coolest thing I've ever heard; a SF Super; and a Superlead when I feel like making my ears bleed.

On top of that I have 5-6 others that I'll fire up every few years to rediscover why I no longer play them.

I've taken a different approach to this and as of Monday I'm down to one amp - my DSL40C. The max I had at one time was 4, but I was never one to rotate them - pretty much stuck with the DSL once I got that two years ago. Everything else was collecting dust, and since we moved and downsized it's not like I have the room for these to just sit around.

Now that I have the Helix I personally don't see myself buying another amp anytime soon, if at all. I have so many choices at my finger tips, and while I understand they are not the exact, physical amp, most of these are really, really close. Close enough for me and just about anyone that hears it.

Maybe I'd feel different if I had a JCM800 or a JMP, but unfortunately I don't and don't see myself in the market for one at this point.

You have a Fender Super Six Reverb?!?!

You are the only person, besides myself, that has, (or had in my case), a Super Six Reverb! I gigged with a 1971 SSR, that I bought new, for over two years. A 100 watt, 6-10” combo that sounded great, but it was a behemoth of an amplifier!

It was a bitch to lug around. Do you have any pics of yours?
