    Need help with amp decision!

It's great you found your amp that you like. I used to have a DSL100, they have great potential and will shake the foundation. That is strange that the guy you got it from bought it new but it had the Wickman audio sticker on it....makes you wonder what they did, or if it was modded?

    Origin 50 head is badass

woah, high gain mod using tube fx? That sounds really cool, this amp could use another gain stage.. Sweetwater did take care of it and sending another, they are awesome

    1987x modding or 2555x trade-in

@nubbis99: I am curious if you have tried running more boost into the front? For me just one boost like SD-1 etc does not do the trick on an amp like this, you need to hit it with more. It takes a combination of two boosts, or boost and EQ pedal to get the proper distortion levels IMO.

    Origin 50 head is badass

I called them and have a support case open, but I seriously doubt there is anything they can do over the phone. The amp works great other than the loop volume goes to whisper quiet anytime you engage the loop while a pedal is plugged into loop.

The Official Marshall Origin 50 Thread

Word of caution to Origin 50 owners, be careful running certain pedals in the loop, I just fried my fx loop running an EQ/Boost pedal in it. I loved the sound but it only lasted a day and no the fx loop does not work. The pedal was an Orange Two Stroke, which I just use as an EQ, but it is...

The Official Marshall Origin 50 Thread

What a cool thread, I just picked up an Origin 50 head and am blown away by how familiar it feels to how I remember my old JMP and JCM800 sounding! Such a fantastic sparkle and chime and with a hot overdrive going, man it covers a LOT of ground!

    Origin 50 head is badass

@ Beltalowda, I am running a mix of broken in v30s and 75's. I would imagine it would be more spikey with new speakers, but not too bright at all on broken in speakers. thanks for the input on preamp tubes guys, I will try some JJ's I have sitting around

    Need help with amp decision!

Thanks Joe, that is cool we both have the Origin....we both used to have Joey Voltage modded JMP's then I got rid of mine, wondering if you still have yours? I got rid of a Peavey 6505 to fund the Origin 50, good riddance the the 6505, the origin is way more authentic marshall than I ever...

    Need help with amp decision!

I would second the vote on the Origin 50, I just picked one up and I love it. I think it would do well with the types of bands you mentioned, obviously would require a hefty boost to get the harder rock. It has that old school Marshall sparkle and chime in spades to my ears. Much more so than...

    Origin 50 head is badass

I hate to ask this because maybe it has been covered; are there any preamp tube swaps that might improve it? I didn't even open it up to see what type were in it. Sounds fine just the way it, but I am usually one that messes with preamp tubes eventually in all my amps.

    Origin 50 head is badass

Have not been on here for a while since I went full Orange Rockerverb mode. I just picked up a Marshall Origin 50 head from Sweetwater because I really missed that old school Marshall sound that I used to get from my '78 JMP and JCM800 4010. Wow, this amp really hits the mark in spades, I was...

80s Guitars Addiction - Who else?

cool thread and pics. I just picked up a Kramer Pacer Custom II from 87', it is badass. Could be my imagination but seems slightly above all the 80s charvels and Ibanez I have owned over the years.

*updated* Orange Bax Bangeetar Preamp Review

I almost got that but the price was just too steep for me. I settled for the Orange two stroke EQ, with is freakin amazing, literally the most versatile EQ in existence

Marshall Amp Comparison ( Sound Clips)

They all sounded usable and great combined together. I guess I have a strong preference for EL34s though, I am not a fan of the other tube types in marshalls, bit lacking on the bite/crunch IMHO

    I Can't Believe 10's Hurt So Much!

I use a hybrid 9-46 so easy bending on leads and firm on the wounds for chords, tuned 1/2 step down. This set feels dramatically different tension depending on the which guitar they are on, because of the different bridge string break angles. Obviously firmest on the trem guitar and they feel...

    Ibanez Ic400 (ngd)

Killer deal, that was worth a lot more, great pickups in that one from the factory. I just picked up a new goth epi explorer for 290 but I was actually hoping for an IC400

    High End Amps, Worth It?

Saxon68, I'm glad you had enough time to read all these pages, I didn't I just read the original post and put up my opinion on his position, no chance I'm sitting reading all the other 5 pages, it was real of you though to point out my redundancy, all threads here could use such diligence and...

    High End Amps, Worth It?

I think an important point here is quality. The 'hi end' amps you mention generally are more expensive because they are arguably of better build quality. For me I have been through so much gear I like spending a little more because down the road there is less chance of technical issues and...

    Nad: Orange Rocker 15

Just looked at the R15 combo online, that is nice Ive owned a lot of Oranges, several OR15, RVMKII RVMKIII, now on my 2nd TH30 I've always found their EQs need more so I have had tremendous results running a 6 band EQ in the effects loop to give it a boost, try it if you can.
