    Ibanez

so this is the before and after. I understand people like the look of the flame top, but at what cost? The veneer doesn't add any tone, it just add more glue and kills the vibration/resonance of the body IMO *the green pic isn't my actual guitar, just one that looked like mine. The 2nd pic...

    Ibanez

After hearing how huge of an improvement it was on the guitar's tone, I did my other 540S today! I experimented a little on this one with different colors of stain, it was a three piece body so I accentuated the pieces. I am not kidding when I say this guitar sounds 10x better, it is uncanny...

    Ibanez

I feel I got lucky that the wood underneath happen to have a nice look when stained/oiled....doesn't always happen that way. That would have sucked to do all that work only to have the wood look bad with stain/oil!

    Ibanez

When I said the results were spectacular I was referring specifically to the sound. I do like the looks a lot also though it is far from perfect..

    Ibanez

I have a '92 Ibanez Saber 540S that had a veneer top and back and a translucent poly coat. It weighed a ton and sounded pretty plain vanilla. I didn't like the color and really love natural oil finishes, so I spend the day removing the poly and veneers. It was a hell of a lot work, not...

    Who Had The Over/under?

Just curious, when you were referring to the KK being buzzy standing directly in front, I am assuming you meant with the tube screamer off? And did you try this with the new TOV as well and confirm it does not do this? I thought all modern amps did that when standing directly in front of the...

    Port City Amps Anyone?

Wondering if anyone had experience with Port City Dual 50 amp, based on a Fender bassman. The amps seem to have great reviews but mostly for the clean tone, and I like a distorted tone, maybe I can use a EH Metal Muff with it or something. Anyhow, this guy wants to trade me the Dual 50 for my...

    1980 Jmp 2203 Squealing Sound

I had an old 2204 do that when the 1st preamp tube pins weren't making good contact. I re-tentioned the tube retainers and it solved it. Not saying thats it, but something else to try....replace tubes, clean and retention tube retainer pins. Good luck.

    Any Ibanez Folks On Here?

I love the late 80s and early 90s Sabers/Radias/RG. Such quality instruments, even by today's standards. I had an 88 Radias, and now have this 92 Saber LTD which I stripped the paint off of. The Edge trem on these stay in tune better than any I've used. I'm always looking on Craigslist for...

    G String Compensation

I read a tuning trick online a few years ago that worked real well for me, I tune the 3 wound strings very slightly flat (a few cents?) and the plain string s slightly sharp, this helped me more than anything else I've tried and is not far enough out to conflict with other instruments.

I've Found The Ultimate ' Real World ' Blues Rock To Metal Amp Finally .

its great to find an amp that works that well for your playing, but you may regret getting rid of gh50l and 800! I tried replacing my 50W amps with a 15W and it lasted a few months then I really missed the thump and clarity that only 50 plus watts can provide.

    Orange Or120 Head Video Demo

It's easy as pie to take an Orange out of fuzzville. I have owned lotsa Oranges, just throw a good clean-ish overdrive in front and you are in big Marshall crunchville, with an awesome hint of fatness thrown into the mix.

    Mesa Rectoverb Came In Today

cool, Mesa always piques my interest but I have had a few and usually end up selling them. I have only owned their old ones like DC-5 and some older ones, not the more popular dual rec and rectoverb. I have played on a rectoverb a few times and never thought it sounded 'Marshall dirty'...

Orange Mkii Rockerverb And 6l6 Tubes?

I bet the Dual Dark is pretty nasty for high gain, in a good way! My RV MKIII 50W gets pretty incredible saturated tone for heavy music, and damn good cleaner vintage tone too. Just to be clear, I don't think it would be recommended to just flick the switch and put in 6L6 tubes, I think you...

    The Recording Thread

I think when the computer does not see the port there is some other thing plugged in or application service that is attempting to use the same resource/port, it could be hard to figure our what though. Maybe try booting the computer when nothing else is plugged in, no other USB ports etc. Or...

    The Recording Thread

cool thread, just found it, as I have been building a cheap and simple home recording setup for a drummer and myself. Curious if anyone else has done something similar with iPad/iPhone type setup. So here is what I have: 1. Behringer XENYX USB mixer, which allows me to USB out of mixer into...
