    Fender USA vs MIM

When I was @ the Corona facility in '98, the workforce was primarily white & Hispanic. And several of the top brass @ Ensenada were American citizens. Regardless, the improved quality of the MIM Fenders from the mid 90s to 2013 is palpable.

    Fender USA vs MIM

Having visited both Ensenada & Corona factories in the past during one of the Fender factory tours they provide to dealers, I can say that the nationality of the factory worker has zero effect on the quality of instrument. At the time of my visit, I would estimate that about 35-40% of the entire...

    Class5 question

Headphones mute the combo's speaker when they are plugged in & you are in headphone mode. With the head, OTOH, since you're dealing w/ a dummy load you should be able to run it sans cab while using cans.

    Seeking distortion pedal suggestions

Not necessarily suggesting this, but I recently picked up the above pictured dirt box. Rocktron Cyborg Distortion. Perhaps the most convoluted dirt box ever produced. Instruction manual is required reading. That said, the dirt tones are extremely nice- covers dynamically sensitive bluesy grit...

EVH Stripe Series - new for 2013

Considering the striped paintjob is patented (as is the EVH brand name), I guess that counts as a sort of signature....

Mesa no longer being sold at Guitar Center?

Mesa/Boogie link to Boogie US Dealer list. The current Mesa US dealer list shows no big box music retailers listed, be they GC/MF, Sam Ash, AMS (although Sweetwater still lists a full in-stock inventory of Boogie stuff online). Looks to be strictly smaller shops and/or larger independent...

    Boss RT-20 Rotary Ensemble

From what I have read as well as a small amount of time dicking around w/ an RT-20 some time back, the Leslie "models" are very good. The Univibe model is decent, but there are better 'vibe options out there. I say take the time to check one out in person if possible, or at the very least get...

    Used JCM 900 at GC

GC in Sacramento had the same amp - albeit in a slight bit more beat up condition - for $599 over the Mem. Day wknd. Also had a 100w 70s JMP, used reissue 1959SLP & the one of the last original production model 2203 heads w/ the GC logo badge on it. Wish I had some disposable $$ over the...

    Your dirt pedals

Between the Bump switch, a fairly responsive Tone knob & the 100hz knob for all the low end boost or cut you need.....yeah, I like mine, too! Plus, gotta love it's C3PO finish.:headbanger:

    Your dirt pedals

MXR Custom Badass Modified OD & '78 Distortion. Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde Looking into either a Carl Martin Plexitone or one of the similar Wampler dirt boxes. Although the Boss ST-2 is actually a pretty good Marshall in a box & surprisingly not very "BOSS pedal" sounding.

    BOSS Vs MXR pedals

I love my CC, but I also dig the digital echo in my old Roland rack unit. I use the CC in front of an amp for certain needs & the digital in the loop. The CC is rather warm & the mod effect is cool, too. Just comes down to what you want out of echo.

DSL 100H: what's the verdict? Need feedback!

H="head", I believe, as the other 2 current DSL models are combos.

    Wireless systems: Nady or Samson?

My old boss @ the music store I worked for in the '90s is now the product line manager for Line 6's wireless & sound reinforcement departments. I know he had some input on the design of their current wireless offerings.

New or Used Class 5 Head?

Your member info under your screen name lists you as being in Atlanta. You will have a Marshall authorized service center in town, most likely. Yeah - why not go new if used is just gonna save you relative pennies.

New or Used Class 5 Head?

In my case, warranty repair is about 30 miles away. If you live in or near a remotely metropolitan area of the US, you should have a Marshall service center within driving distance.

    MXR Prime Distortion

In the videos, it sounds to me like the Custom Badass '78 Distortion w/ the Crunch button engaged. Would not be surprised if this is the case, since the previous MXR GC exclusives were Taiwanese rebrands to existing pedals.

    MXR Prime Distortion

Much like the Guitar Center/MF exclusive Classic OverDrive & Distortion pedals offered a couple years back, MXR has rolled out another of these budget priced stompers, again available only via GC or MF. The Prime Distortion will be selling for $49.99 US starting 5/22/13 Jim Dunlop...

    Marshall Class 5

Still on the website, and the Custom Shop Pin Up models are still available new, but the "regular" Class 5 series has in fact been discontinued. From what has been reported here & elsewhere, Marshall felt they had to end the C5 run. Amp was more successful then they expected & at the price they...

    Marshall Class 5

I have used my combo in a small room w/ a drummer & was able to be heard. I would check out the "main" C5 thread here for the best info. http://www.marshallforum.com/marshall-amps/17536-touch-class-class5-owners-welcome.html While discontinued, you might still find new combos & heads - check...

Forget Slash, I have the Slayer tone and you are jealous

With some work & I'm sure a bit of frustration.....yes wulfgar1976.....they would! The point ken was making was that a great guitar player CAN make "crap" gear sound good. But said greats are going to use what they feel is the best gear for the job, which means less work having to go into...
