Two 1960a cabs labelled 16 ohm were actually 8

Re: Two 1960b cabs labelled 16 ohm were actually 8 This ^^ makes sense . But in my day I NEVER saw a label OVER a cab label that corrected the impedance, and I saw a lot of cabs. It appears there was a LOT of misbadged cabinets in Canada. I got an answer from a guy selling a jcm 800 cab and...

Two 1960a cabs labelled 16 ohm were actually 8

Re: Two 1960b cabs labelled 16 ohm were actually 8 Ken, Bear with me. I'm not as savvy on posting pics as I should be. It may be a couple of days. What's interesting, in my mind, is these cabs came from opposite ends of our population. Both don't appear to me to have seen many road miles...

Two 1960a cabs labelled 16 ohm were actually 8

I thought I'd throw this out there just because. Over the last couple months I've been buying Marshall stuff when I see it cheap. Two 1960b cabinets were in that lot. Both cabinets are older, being JCM 800 lead series. Both have the single jack on the back. Both are labelled 16 ohm. Both in...

Kit build using Bugera or a TSL 60?

The Ceriatone board with the Laney parts is a great idea. I'm ordering one today. Thanks for that.

    Buying from Marshall UK

I went ahead and ordered a few accessories from Marshall Uk. I ordered a couple of head covers, 1960 covers, a few combo covers. And knobs. I thought the prices were more than fair and shipping was only £15 from the Uk! Air freight too. I was semi-prepared for duties and taxes so when I saw...

Kit build using Bugera or a TSL 60?

I knew it would happen. I dropped the new EH preamps into my TSL 60 and used the same 99 03 Svetlana output tubes. Good lord. It now roars like a fire breathing dragon. I found a really sweet tone on the lead channel with my Squier Jag that I dig. I also lucked out and within the week got a...

Kit build using Bugera or a TSL 60?

An old Traynor. Now why didn't I think of that? They are so common around here people use them to park their dirtbikes on. I also like the Laney idea. That sounds great. In my budget range. Well then the TSL 60 gets flogged. I'll put some proper preamp tubes in, bias her up and say goodbye...

Irrational desire for a low demand cab

I have a AVT412 straight cab with the standard Celestion speakers, 50w rating for a cab rating of 200w. I don't know when these cabs were made but they are certainly not a current model. I actually like the cab for some things I'm playing. It's at least as good as my 1960a, in at least I mean...

Kit build using Bugera or a TSL 60?

15 bills will net me a clean 2203 with service history if I can WAIT The ceriatone seems pretty cool but then I still need a cabinet and I suppose my tsl 60 would do, saving me the $210 or so from the, can't recall the name head cabinet guys. I buy a Bugera 1960 for $300 and see what's inside...

    Tubestore and duties for Canadians

I've been anally compromised by UPS brokerage fees more than once. They really give it to you dry.

    Tubestore and duties for Canadians

Duh. I figured they were American, I should have clued in when the shipping for an $800 order was only $11 express from Canada Post. Thanks guys.

Kit build using Bugera or a TSL 60?

I can't find an 800 series head I like for a price that jives with the head value. I see beaten up horrid looking pieces of crap and the owner, when asked about service history, tells me he's owned it 15 years and it's never been into the shop but it screams and he only wants $1,500. Then...

    Tubestore and duties for Canadians

Question for Canadian users of Tubestore. Does the CRA add 13% HS, or any taxes or duties for that matter, to orders from the Tubestore? I'm about to order $800 in tubes and don't want a nasty surprise.

TUBE Facts and Info by MartyStrat54

My two music stores, (I alternate cities) are very poor in keeping stock. One store at least as a pair of Electro Harmonix 12AXZ. Everything else, except for some Mesa EL84 Boogie output tubes scattered haphazardly around a display unit, has to be ordered. I don't understand that.

Why would two 12AX7 bite the dust?

It's not a case of it not being used, it has been used by a kid for the last 3-4 years. He had no clue how a Marshall should sound and was running it through an Orange 2x12 cab. He had the impedance right, whether he knew how to configure it or it was just blind luck I don't know. I have no...

Why would two 12AX7 bite the dust?

I guess I'm amazed the output tubes are still 100%. I'm installing the new 12AX7 tubes tomorrow and I'll bias the amp while I'm at it. I don't think the bias has been touched or even checked in 15 years. This should be a fire breathing dragon, not quite a Night Fury but fairly close.

    Eminence swamp thang with GT12-75's?

Well, I bought the speakers, Eminence Swamp thangs, and I can use them in one of the many combos I have kicking around or mix them in an 1960a. They are 102db/1w/1m which I think is twice as loud as the Celestions. Oops. Maybe 4x as loud as the GT12-75 are 97db/1w/1m. What about just...

Why would two 12AX7 bite the dust?

This is in my newly acquired TSL 60. I knew it sounded sick when I bought it hence the low price. I have a Radio Institute of America tester that is very flexible and tests pretty much every tube ever to grace the innards of a musical amplification device. Anyway, my Svetlana EL34 tubes (2000...

How do you stabalize a wobbly stack??

Hockey pucks. I don't know it you can get them in places like Oz but I've been using hockey pucks for cab->floor and 1960b->1960a as long as I can remember. Work great.

    Instrument cable verses speaker cable

I'll have to cut some white covering plastic back on the Fender cables to get at the plug. At least I can get at the plug. Those cables I can figure out thanks to you guys here. The planet wave 5' is a molded plug. I feel I'll make a right mess if I try to cut back the plastic enough to see the...
