    I just got lucky and picked up an AVT. I'm very happy with mine. I'd call all the music stores in your area and see if they have any left before they're all gone for good. With you're budget a GOOD all tube amp is almost out of the question unless you get a great deal.

    That's odd about the JJ's. I've heard they have lotts of bass response which seems to contradict Plexipaul's "chimey" tube post. Which one is it? I've read Chinese tubes have a sweet, warm, midrange to them. I'm more confused now than ever...

    I've managed to pickup an AVT and noticed the stock tube says "Marshall" but I can't seem to find them anywhere. Does anyone know what kind of tube most sounds like this one, i.e. Mullard, etc...?

    Sounds like you need new poweramp valves. Have you changed them yet? After that long I'd retube the whole amp, your preamp ones will go next.
