    It Sucks To Be Right/dsl40cr!

I biased mine to 32-33ma and that is where it sounds the best to me. Mine came out of the box at 40ish ma. Too hot with fizzy gain.

    Should I Get A Dsl?

Love my Friedman Smallbox 50 and DSL40CR. After correcting the bias on the DSL40CR and switching out the speaker to a creamback I love it. Just be careful with the new DSL series. There are a few that come with issues out of the box. I went through a couple before getting one that was issue free.

    Dsl40cr And Speaker Wattage Question.

First I ordered another DSL40CR after having a couple with issues. This one works great. I biased it and switched out the internal speaker for a Creamback and love it. As an alternative I also use a Marshall 2x12 extension cab loaded with two Celestion Alinco Cream 90s. Sounds great using either...

    Dsl 100hr Noise

I had a DSL40CR a couple months ago that had that low background rumble too. Returned it. New one is fine. Some others with the 40cr and 100hr have also had this issue. A couple of people even said it got progressively worse (louder) over time.

    Satriani Sig Jvm Discontinued

Awesome amp. Miss mine. One of a few amps that I regretted selling.

    Dsl40 Replacement Release Yet?

I agree. The 40CR sounds great. If you can find one that does not have switching, noise, footswitch, or hum issues. Took me three to find one problem free but the reliability worried me so returned it and got a Runt 50.

Best Amp You Ever Played ?

Not sure about best but one that I liked the most is my current Friedman Smallbox 50 using a 2x12 cab with a pair of Alnico Creamback 90s. Of course back in the 60s and 70s I played through some great Marshalls and Fenders. Just can’t remember much about them. That was a lot of years and brain...

Marshall Dsl40cr 2018 Problems... And The Future?

Just got through boxing up my third defective DSL40CR. I will not be repacking and returning/exchanging any more. Sad because for the money its an awesome sounding amp. Switching issues, hissing, rumbling and popping noises, hum on clean channel. On a positive note the one I am returning today...

    It Sucks To Be Right/dsl40cr!

Replaced all tubes including pre-amp and power tubes, biased and noise still there.

    It Sucks To Be Right/dsl40cr!

.............Well after much thought decided to return it or exchange for something else. After three with one issue or another I am done with the DSL40CR. Even tried new EL34s and taking it to a friends house just to see if it was the electric in my house causing the cracking and popping. Sadly...

    It Sucks To Be Right/dsl40cr!

My 01-18 build 40CR has zero switching or other bugs except one. My third one after the first two others had switching issues. The only bug with my newest and current one is a very low crackling and popping noise in the background when idle. Does not increase with volume and I have to put my ear...

Marshall Dsl40cr 2018 Problems... And The Future?

I have a new set of EL34s coming in I ordered for my Friedman. Will try them in the DSL first. However a couple of people have said they tried new tubes and the problem did not go away. I have already tried replacing the 3 pre amp tubes as well.

Marshall Dsl40cr 2018 Problems... And The Future?

Need advice on same issue cracking and popping noise on Jan 18 dated DSL40CR. This is my second one. Returned the first because of switching problems. Anyway after a couple of days my new one developed a low popping and crackling noise in the background. I have to be standing close to the amp to...

Marshall Dsl40cr 2018 Problems... And The Future?

Love my Friedman SB50! Fantastic amp. However just bought another DSL40CR just to have a combo on hand. Third one and so far this one actually seems to be working. Maybe third one will be a charm. (But for all along. Right?) Anyway stuck a Creamback in it, biased it and put a Mullard RI in V1...

    Newby Biasing Question

Thanks. When I adjusted the bias I made sure AC and all other electronics were off. I just decided to leave it at 70 percent vs 60-65 percent to give me a little fluff room when other electronics and the AC is on. I will certainly keep an eye on the tubes though. Good thought on checking wall...

    Newby Biasing Question

Have another question. I did notice that when the AC kicks on and with the TV and other electronics in the room on the bias drops 3-4ma. Is that the reason for the 70 percent? I adjusted the bias back up to 36ma so when everything else was on it actually gave me around 33ma. My OCD is not liking...

    Newby Biasing Question

Thanks for the tip on turning off AC. I even left my hifi gear off. Plate voltage was 480. Divided 25 by 480 and then multiplied that sum by 70 percent which equaled 36ish. Set the bias to 36ma and then played guitar through the amp for an hour. Then fine tuned back to 36ma. I also tried running...

    Newby Biasing Question

Then I will learn how to measure plate voltage. Something I should know with all the tube amps I have. Have a meter and will set it to DC 500V+. Power amp on, let it warm up for a while. All knobs on zero. Red lead from meter Pin 3 and black grounded to chasis. Oh and be careful. Hope I did not...

    Newby Biasing Question

I played it some tonight and sounds good. The Plexi channel seems to have a tad less gain from what I remember with the TADs. So does the BE channel. Seems to have more headroom though. Per my math I came up with 33ma and that is at 60 precent. Now I am at 32ish. I may bias a tad hotter just to...

    Newby Biasing Question

I believe I read somewhere 450-460. When you say bias in pairs I really only have that option since there is only one bias pot. Maybe I am such a clueless newby I do not understand what you mean?
