Muscle memory, kinda like Karate, or driving a manual transmission automobile.
The repetition of a task, until it's second nature.
But there's a point of where rest is as important as the task itself, so one doesn't over stimulate.

Ever go through Steve Vai's 10 hour work...
It is like exercise...
I'll work at it very hard, for 2 days, hours at a time.
And then take a day off. Don't even think about the guitar, go outside, or work on a different hobby. Get your brain away from it.
When the 4th day comes, I'll pick up the guitar, but not think of what I'm playing...
I LOVE strats!!!
I've had upwards of 20something of them at a time, but the herd has thinned a bit over the years. (more quality, than quantity)
These are all keepers.

-MIJ '70's reissue, with HS3's, and a scalloped board. Nice Malmsteen look to it

I've worked on guitars for a long time, but will be quick to say I don't know everything.

For many years, I ran an old DOD preamp/overdirve 250...it nailed Malmsteens early (cleaner) tone
Currently, I do two things depending on how much flexibility I need.
I 'll run a direct out of my Lead 12, right into the front of the head. (much like Gibbons)
Or, I'll use the DOD up wind from a...
In middle school (1979) our music teacher had us watch the Jimi Hendrix section of the Monterey Pop Festival.
Killing floor was the first tune...blew me out of the water.
I was like 8 years old...had no idea who Jimi was, and why he was wearing a pink boa, but I really didn't care!
The next...
The newest member on here for the moment, but I've been playing through Marshalls since 1986! (started out on the mighty Lead 12/ model 5005)
I currently have/love a Model 2555 head, and matching angled cabinet, that I've played through since '96...great amp!....I remember working in a guitar...
