A WARNING for all Marshall cab users

I know this post is a little old, but short of rewiring the whole speaker jack, you could start by re-flowing all the solder connections on the circuit board. That would definitely be a good start. Unless there is actual physical damage to the PCB, the switches, or the traces, the most likely...

    SL-X EL34 conversion

So you know what I'm talking about in the pre amp volume control... The dude I took it to changed a capacitor right by the input, I'm guessing before anything gets to the first gain stage. what did you do to yours?

Also check out Granger amps on youtube. This dude makes some great sounding amps, and most of them are under $2k.

I was under the impression that as of late, Angus and Malcolm were exclusively using Wizard amps. And as Blueslicks said, they are more Wizards than Marsahalls. I also thought Angus Young's amp tech was the founder of Wizard amps. Most likely they were using something along the lines Celestion...

    SL-X EL34 conversion

Thanks for the response. What kind of music do you play? Like I said, I could spare some low end. I've read the lows are tighter with the 6CA7's, but I'm afraid of "thinness" I guess. I don't want to lose the thump I'm getting from the amp. I also got a touch more headroom with the 6l6's. I was...

    SL-X EL34 conversion

So I finally gave in had my SL-X converted to EL34's. I bought the 5881 version intentionally as to have the rounder warmer tone of the 6l6's I would put in it. However, it seemed like it lacked in the tone department, for what I was doing anyway. It was a tad mushy and almost zero usable mid...

    Attenuators

I have a MV amp too, I guess I don't need an attenuator either. I just thought it would give me that power give crunch that I like at low-ish volumes.

    Attenuators

I wouldn't either but I have a neighbor who does not like my amp and yes it's probably too loud, but if he comes over again we're gunna fight. And I also do not want to attenuate. For as much I like the tone I also like the floor to shake under my feet when I play. But to keep the peace I...

    6L6/5881 tube...more headroom

Yeah, I thought that might be an option. How would the cooler biasing effect the volume or anything else for that matter? Besides the breakup...

    Attenuators

I want to buy an attenuator and I saw one for sale on CL. It's a Marshall power brake. Good/bad I don't know. But my question is, do attenuators go bad? I've heard of cheap attenuators damaging OT's and what not. Is this true? I don't want to buy a used product and have it cause $300 damage to...

    6L6/5881 tube...more headroom

Put the NOS 5751 in the PI and I like the AX7 better. It did reduce the gain, but the AX7 is more toneful.

    6L6/5881 tube...more headroom

Ok. Tomorrow. I'd like to test it at a good volume and my neighbors hate me as it is. Thanks.

    6L6/5881 tube...more headroom

Will do slagg. I happen to have a couple NOS 5751's.

    6L6/5881 tube...more headroom

I'm using AX7's. I'm sure it's preamp distortion. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good, just when I turn it up it sounds out of control. It's loud as f*** but it loses some of the character that it has at lower volumes. And when I say lower volumes, it's still pretty loud. I guess I'm just greedy...

    6L6/5881 tube...more headroom

Are there any brand power tubes that allow more headroom? Looking for later breakup in my SL-X. Don't ask me why, just experimenting with different tones. Using the JJ 6L6's right now. I read somewhere that he mesa white label or something allow more headroom or a late breakup groove tubes. Any...

Chinese V30's& English V30's-some advice please

If it matters. I have 2 mesa cabs. Both have K100's and T100's X'd up. 2 of the T100's in one cab are Chinese and the others are English made. They sound like different cabinets. I'm considering looking for English made T100's. A/B'd there is a difference but its hard to hear anything with both...
