I found this on the Orange forum regarding the differences between the ORS, GRO and OR models.
Differences Between ORS, GRO & OR Models - Orange Amps Forum
I'd forgot about the GRO. IIRC they looked identical to the pics only OR amps but there was some kind of difference between the two. Do you know what it was?
Yes, the SROs are nice sounding speakers. My Twin is loaded with orange back JBLs but I have a 2x12 extension cab with the coffee can SROs as well. Each speaker gives its own distinctive sound to the Twin.
Appreciate that info. For some reason I thought there was an ORS model that after Cliff Cooper stopped selling the Orange Matamp line. It was quite a while ago that I thought there was an Orange amp on eBay advertised as an ORS100. It had the look of the pics only OR120s that Cliff Cooper sold...
I did have my 68 NMV SF set to BF specs. The difference was subtle i.e. not that noticeable. It's been a real workhorse over the years, probably my most used amp back when I was young and strong.
Was the ORS the link between the Orange Matamps and the OR line. I remember an ORS on eBay back when I was still collecting amps. That was the one that got away from me as I have Orange Matamps and OR amps. If I were younger and not past my amp collecting days I might want to talk to you about...
Sweet collection neikeel! Are you in the US or the UK? The reason I ask is I don't see Orange Matamps in the US frequently. They're fine sounding amps. Does your cab have the G12H30 speakers?
Happened to catch this video yesterday. I guess the backline for all bands playing Beat Club was Orange Matamps but I think Kossoff may have used them on other occasions as well. The sound was pretty good. Any other Orange Matamp fans here?
I'll have to find out about the speakers. The 12 inch EVMs would definitely interest me since my Twin has orange back JBLs and I've got an extension 2x12 with SROs. FWIW I also have two Showman cabs. One has 15 inch JBLs, the other 15 inch EVs. A TR with EVMs would round out the collection.
Yes, I thought it seemed a little high but I've been out of the vintage amp market for quite some time now. Did the sound on the Twin Reverbs change significantly after they added a master volume? If this one sounds anything like my 68 I may take a look at it.
What about the two input Hiwatts? My DR 100 is from around 1979. It is very loud. I've only used it a couple of times on gigs because it's too loud for most places but I still really like to practice with it. The clean sound at low volumes really exposes any chops deficiencies.
Thanks guys. FWIW I do own a 1968 SF Twin Reverb which is non MV. It's been a workhorse over the years for all kinds of gigs. Speakers are JBL and I converted it to BF specs many years ago, although honestly the difference in sound was not huge. It's always been one of my favorite amps.
I like this idea of studying a different scale every month since I tend to be a little random when it comes to practicing. Once you've done this for a month how often do you come back to the scale to keep it and the chords associated with it under your fingers? When I was playing standards for...
Unfortunately tubes and more doesn't have this type of fuse holder so I'm still looking. Any other thoughts? Matamp may not be that widely used in the US but they're not totally unknown either so it seems there should be a source somewhere in the US.
