*shrugs* Approach it like you would an amp; incorporate future changes/upgrades/mods in the price and work out whether it's worth it. I bought a Tele with shit hardware for a ham sandwich and fixed most of it up. In total it cost me less (marginally, though, honestly) than what I would have paid for a Tele *with* all the pickups/bridge/electronics I wanted. Actually, they're handwound on custom request, so NO guitar would have had them from the start, but that's not the point. Equally, there are not many Tele's with series/parallel pickup switching.
Anyhow, back on topic, if I would happen to run into one of those 2019 LP's for the right price I might take it on as a project to 'improve it'.
Opinions are like orgasms. Mine is way more important than anyone else's. It's nice if they line up, but not a requirement, per se...
