Here it is again, that age old question about what speakers do you like best with your DSL. I had a plexi clone and used a 2x12 of greenbacks with it and when I got rid of that amp for my DSL50 naturally that was the cab I used. I wasnt completely satisfied so I tried a few other speakers I had lying around a Vintage 30 and a Jensen C12K. All these speakers sounded totally different with my DSL but I kept going back to the greenbacks cuz they sounded the best out of what I had. Recently I went away for a couple weeks and took my new MIM Strat and headphone amp with me, so when I got back and plugged into my DSL after being away from it for a while it just didnt sound so great to me again. I wish I could afford to buy a 100 different speakers and try them all out but I cant so I'd like to know what everybody else is using and what kind of sound they're getting. What kind of sound am I looking for? I'm still trying to figure that out myself. So what speakers do you like with your DSL?

I have tried several different 1960 cabs loaded with different things. Greenbacks, V-30's, Eminence Redcoat Jacks, Celestion golds...etc.

I still like my very neutral stock 75's best. Brand new they may not be the sweetest thing around but broken in they just have a very "straight up" tone that showcases the amp. It suits the versatility of the DSL well.

The 1987x sounds good on the 75's but it sounds better with the 1960TV that I tried it out on so far. I also like the 1987x on my old Peavey Sheffield loaded cab better.

v30s. when you crank that amp the mids are clear and full of meat.
unless your using the amp for something lite.

Cabinets will effect your tone too....My evolution of speakers with the DSL50...
Mesa 2x12 Rectifer cab w/ V30 - great portable cab
1936 w/ 75's - Hated it. Took it back after a couple of weeks
Mesa 4x12 Rectifier Cab w/V30 - Bass got a little woofy on both channels, 5150 Straight Cab - Really liked this for a long time. Older original 5150 cab all ply. Ironically I also bought a newer 5150 cab with an MDF back and hated it
1960b - OK with DSL but really prefered it with either of my two VTM's
75's and Sheffield 1200's in X pattern 1960b - Sounded great but put back
1960av - Back to V30's after a couple of years with the 5150 cabs. Have not really ab'd the V30's against the Sheffields yet but am prefering them over the 75's. Next is to X pattern V30 with 75's and see how they sound in the a or b cab...

I do wish it was easier to try out speakers...

I realize this is unconventional but I have a 2x12 with a Weber Bluedog and Weber Silverbell. My main reason for trying them was to support a business in my home state. Weber is about an hour from my house in Kokomo, IN. But these are killer speakers. I have trouble describing sound with words but they really make a Marshall sound like a Marshall.

I use Celestion Vintage 30s.

I have a 1960AV cab and a Lopoline 2x12 with V30s.

I also put a V30 in my Peavey Classic 30.

I guess I really like V30s. :)

1960AV= V30s
2x12 cab= Jensen Mods

I like both types (both are bright), but I sometimes consider getting a warmer type for the 1960AV. Which wouldn't be cheap, seeing how I'd have to buy 4 of whatever it is.

About as far south in Alabama as you can go withou
Im running a variety...sorta...between the 100 watt head and the 50 watt combo.

1960B 2 G12M-70's and 2 G12seventy-80's in a 'x' pattern
MG412A 4 G12M-70's
Seismic 2x12 2 G12M-70's
Combo Speaker G12seventy-80

Overall I get no speaker break-up, which is exactly what I want. If I get the tone I want in the head from the pre-amp section...its stays pretty consistent from bedroom level to rip your ears off loud. That way I still sound like me whether Im using one speaker or 12.

I use V30s with my DSL50 and it sounds great. I could be happier tho and thats why I think Im gonna load my cab with greenbacks! Like stated before, its not stressed enough about how much a difference the actual cab makes. Ive played my head through my freinds Peavey 412 classic with sheffields and it sounded really shitty and gutless!
