With "as good as the metal zone" you are probably referring to the semi-parametric middle frequency EQ feature of the MT-2 (mid control and mid frequency control) and the gobs of gain the pedal has.

If you want a more modern sound from the MT-2 and are able to mod it yourself, go for the Brian Wampler's Dieznerr (Diezel) mod for the Metal Zone.

And yes that is my go to. I replaced my overdrive pedal with the metal zone because you can get so much more out of it. Awesome boost great front end eq I completely understand why this pedal is such a big seller. I also understand why some people hate it ,it does take a time investment to get it right.

Metal zone sounds best when plugged into the effects loop
I have used it like that, But I don’t think that’s the best way. put it in front of a good distorted amp with the eq set where you like and put the level up and turn the distortion all the way down and use it like that it gives it a much better sound.

I would encourage you to check out the Waza Metal Zone and its Custom voicing switch.

That is on my list and an eq 200 I really want to see what I can get out of the eq200 in the 4 cable method. An eq going in and an eq in the Fx loop you can dial in some tight sounds. The od200 is a really great pedal too.

Behringer Metal pedal.
$20 new. Sweetwater or anybody else has them used.
I usually just rely on my Marshall heads to deliver hi gain and metal tones.
This cheap ass pedal has some heavy metal kick.

Did someone here already mention the ML-2? I guess it's literally the Metal Zone evolved, though BOSS just make both... and a Waza version of the former... y'know, revenue and stuff.

I had a Metal Core that was terrible. Too much bass, harsh, and more noisy than other high gain pedals.

Revv G3 is what I used to put in front of my previous amp for modern metal purposes. No need now, but that was a great pedal.

Someone mentioned the Digitech Metal master. I love that pedal, here it is plugged into a 1959 SLP

I used to have that pedal. Haven’t seen it in years though. That recording sounds great though.

I have a Diezel Herbert pedal. The VH2 pedal is also heavy.
