Hey guys,
this is one of my first posts here on this forum, looking to buy a used Marshall.
I came across a JCM2000 DSL100 halfstack (1960 loaded w/ V30's), of which the guy has just recently replaced the tubes :thumb:).
Also, I saw a 1x12" 6101 30th anniversary combo (from 1992) for a little less than the DSL.
I don't know what to go for, and I can't just go out and try both (gas prices..).
I'm not a really decibel-hungry guy, but want a big fat sound for 70's-80's hard rock like AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Van Halen and a more subtle sound like Led Zeppelin..

Hope you guys can help me out...
Thanks in advance :slash:

For the music you're into, the 6101 will give you the tone you're looking for. The 30th Anniversary series sounds a lot like a JCM 800 and has a more classic tone.

Thanks for the replies, guys.
I've also just come across a Vintage Modern 2466 halfstack, which seems awesome for the tone I'm after. The 6101 has been sold, so it's either the DSL halfstack for 685 euros or the VM halfstack for 800-900.. what to do? :slash:

DSL halfstack. Much more versatile than the VM...

You're going to come across lots of stuff!
Jump at something that isn't touched, and you should be good to go!
whatever you play is what people associate with you.
the way you use the amp is what makes them totally different.

I really like my dsl100 with a 2x12 cab. It's like the perfect size for most things. It sounded really good with v30's. I have a 4x12 wth v30's too but it's just too freakin loud for most anything.

Thanks for the replies again.
I don't really care about versatility, I just want an amp made to rock n' roll. Really just looking for an in-your-face rock sound that cleans up nicely as you roll down the guitar volume.
Is there any Marshall amp you really recommend for this? It doesn't necessarily have to be a DSL, VM or 6100 series amp.
Thanks in advance :dude:

All I can say is my DSL is extremely versitile. It can go from the famous Marshall cleans to a damn MONSTER of an amp (with OD pedal, lol). I feel it's a tremendously under-rated amplifier.

IF the VM2466 halfstack comes with the 425 cabinet, I'd say the VM halfstack would be a great pickup for the tones you are after.

Demo the halfstack (if you can) and if all seems good to you, make the deal.

Can't thank you enough for the replies.
My parents plainly said "NO WAY!" when I told them about possibly buying a halfstack so that's not going to work out, I guess.
I've been looking into the Vintage Modern combo's, what about them?
I've also heard about the rattle-issue they're so infamous for.. I could pick one up for 625, but want to know what to expect before I head off on a 4hour journey to get it, lol.
