srv is a good example to use for this discussion.
srv, austin city limits..the one where he wears the blue kimono..listen to when he switches from his main guitar the one with no paint, to the red 64.
im not going to tell you what i hear, it will spoil the effect.

srv again, when he started using that off white thing with the butterscotch pickguard, did anyone notice a difference in his tone? that off white guitar has great frequency response, more mids than the main guitar...but (way) less dynamic response.
two guitars, one great, one very good.

j.page is another example, that 59 of his is not defined by the pickups, but rather, the cuban mahogany its made of.

AFD, the guitar slash used for that, whatever it is, youre not gonna get the tone by giving someone money for pickups, despite what they may tell you, and what you read in these forums, it just aint gonna happen.

edit- and you wont get it by adding a gain stage to your amp, or even by using the exact same amp he used for the recording.
