    The Vintage Modern Thread

I picked up my brand new 2266 head today, but still sitting in the car, can't open it up yet, probably this Saturday. Can't wait! :thumb:

    Pedals for 800?

Try an Ibanez TubeScreamer TS-808 in front of the amp, and don't set pre-amp to max, instead, set Pre-Amp Vol. around 1.5 or 2 and set the Master Vol. around 5-7.

    Help Me Choose...

SH, if both (50 and 100 watt head) set at the same low volume, a 50 watt head would have better crunch tone? I don't plan to gig with this head, as mainly I'm just a home player guy, so I don't need loudness, what I need is the tone at home level playing range. I was thinking to get an...

    Help Me Choose...

I order both 50 and 100 watt, but I'll have to choose one when it's ready to be picked up. I tried a 50 watt before, never a 100 watt one. I wonder how different are they?

    Help Me Choose...

Sorry Joe, what do you mean? My gut telling me to get a 100 watt since I have a 50 watt (JMP) already.

    Help Me Choose...

Okay, I have decided to pull the trigger and get a Vintage Modern head today. I have ordered both 50 and 100 watt heads, I'll choose one when it's ready to be picked up (probably in 1 or 2 days). :fingersx: Please recommend which watt should I go with, 50 or 100 watt?

    2205 on ebay

Many may say a single channel (2203/2204) would have better tone than dual channel (2205/2210).

I'd probably get one sooner or later. It's growing on me. I just tested again last night, but this time was different, I like the tone of it, very rich on low-end, but again yesterday was so quite in the store, so can't turn the MV above 1

    Modding a Vintage 2203

That's the least you wanna do with that 2203. I do have an '81 2204, it's all original no mods. If I were to add an effect loop, I'd get a Vintage Modern head for it and leave the 2204 as is. (Hopefully soon :fingersx:)

'82 JMP 100w vs. Vintage Modern 2266 head

Rypsolisti, you have exactly what I have in mind right now, either a JMP or a VM, but not quite though, since you're looking for a 100 watt JMP. Mine is '81 50 watt JMP head. MKB is totally right, you need a boost pedal on a JMP to get the gain, unless you're able to crank it out loud, then you...

SH, one nice rig you got there bro! To me, Gibson and Marshall is like one word, can't be separated! :thumb:

    My Complete Rig

Now I'm still digging about that VM. If I bought one, that because of you, got brain-washed. But I'm sure I won't be disappointed. What are the volume settings on your VM when you play it? I had mine Master Vol 7, Pre-Amp Vol 1. That's it no more than that or cops would bust into my...

    My Complete Rig

No pedals in front of the VM? I have to boost my JMP with a TS-808, then the Slash tone is nailed. I'll wait until I'm lucky enough to get an attenuator, then crank it up, and take out the TS-808.

JCM 800 single/dual or vintage modern?

Yes I read it, thanks. Can you summarize what tubes you use to get as close to Slash tone?

So what are the main differences you can tell? More mids on 50 watt and more lows on 100 watt?
