I paid almost nothing for it. It likely needs new output tubes but still it sounds amazing. I plugged my 6 string into it and I was blown away. I could turn quite a tidy profit on it if I sell it but now I'm not sure I want to let it go. Opinions and tech knowledge welcome :hbang:
I replaced mine with a Classic Lead. I'm going to list one (G12M-70) on eBay in the next few days if anyone is interested. I have a couple things going up for sale. Making room for more guitars. I also have another Classic Lead I might let go.:D
I was not impressed with the newer Vietnamese made models. I don't associate DSL and JCM2000 with each other and I don't have much experience with the older British 2000
Also don't buy the negative hype about the "normal channel". It's very usable if it's set up properly. I set my master at about 8 and dial in a cleanish tone then set up an o/d for a little boost and get a ZZ Top 70s tone and then switch off the o/d and use my boost channel for high gain stuff...
That sounded pretty damn good. I love my 4210. It's modded a little and and I changed the speaker but I was able to get it dialed in nicely. I don't even use an ext. cab anymore. Don't need it. The only thing I don't like is it's the heaviest damned 1x12 combo I have ever lifted.
I tried them out looking for a combo and I thought they sounded like a solid state amp. Like an MG series. I bet they are great for metal (as the MG is) but the ones I tried just didn't have the right voice for me.
I was chasing 2204 tone with my 4210 and the more I listened to guys using the 2204/2203 the more I found it too 80s as well. I'm going Plexi for my next amp for that very reason. If I need crazy high gain for something I'll use a pedal. :slash:
My amp is fizzy and too bright on the top end with a lot of gain and the 70 reproduced it too well. I found a slightly warmer speaker tamed those ice pick highs without hurting the mids or low end. I tried to sell mine on ebay and I could not even get a 20 dollar bid. It was still better than...
I'm confused. You first stated they were G12 70 then later 75. There is a difference as the 75 is held in slightly higher regard as opposed the "worst speaker" they ever made.
I have heard they are happier in a closed cabinet. My 4210 had one and I didn't hate it but I ran a V30 in it's place for a while and now it has CL80. It is no where near as good as those. It reminds me of something a Crate might have. It'll do but it's not going to be great.
I've made a decision. I'm going to build a JTM 45 clone because it's a relatively simple build and work my up as I learn more. If I need some over the top overdrive or grind I can put my ADA MP-1 in front of it or just use my 4210 for that type of stuff.:mrburns:
Looking at the schematic it's very similar apart from the MV and the cascaded gain stage. Some component values are different. I guess I don't quite understand the cascaded gain stage and how that is different than a jumper across the inputs on the 1987.
Besides the master volume of course. It seems like it's very minimal and I could get some good 2204 grind by adding the MV. I'm sure this has been covered here somewhere so I would settle for a link to that thread. I built a JTM45 clone before and sold it before I could really play around with...
I just saw Black Label Society last week at a club show so small they could only squeeze three stacks on each side of the drum riser for the "wall of doom". It was my third BLS show and by far the best. Zakk's tone was outstanding. His solo was boring as all hell but they played their best songs...
I am partial to the 2205 sound simply because I use them myself but his older tone sang so pretty. You can't get that sound from a 2205. I think the DSLs sound like shit. I'm sure I'll get grief for that opinion but I could never find one I liked. They all sounded thin and "brittle" as you put...
I liked the Probuckers in my 2013 Custom Pro. I replaced them immediately with an EMG 81/85 combo but that was my plan all along. I actually used the probuckers in another guitar though.
