Is it just me? DSL40C vs DSL40CR

I agree. For my tastes DSL40C > DSL40CR. I often find that less complicated circuits sound best, in amps and pedals. To be fair I like a little hair on my cleanish tones, so I don't miss the 4 switchable modes. I mostly play 70's rock and just found the DSL40 with pedals to sound more classic...

Marshall DSL 40 vs Marshall Origin 20 Combo

I own a DSL40C and a JCM2000 50 DSL head. Both do a good job of approximating AC/DC tones on the green channel with the crunch button enabled for a strat and not enable for a Les Paul, and both can do an acceptable Angus lead tone even with a Strat and the OD1 red channel. My Strat has a higher...

    Jcm 2000 tsl 60 tone

I've got one. It seems to be dialed for higher gain so mine sounds muddy with low mids on the crunch channel with lower gain (9 oclockish). Raising the channel volume and master volume helps and I add a Wampler Equator with sweepable mids to add the upper mid crunch back in. I suspect a Vintage...

    Jcm 800 2205 50 Watt

I believe the later models had a gain channel revision (after 84 maybe) that is generally considered more popular. Tom Morello's from Rage's amp of choice. They have a 2 gain knob setup , in which once controls the amount of diode stage clipping , if I recall correctly. I kept that knob low and...

    Marshall DSL JCM 2000 50w vs JCM 800 2204

for me there is no doubt that a stock 2204 has a punchier better sounding crunch than the stock dsl if you can get the volume up some. The dsl's red channel is closest to that tone for me, and i prefer to have c19 reduced to 100pf iirc for channel balancing. The dsl , as mentioned, has a nicer...

    Best marshall giging setup: combo, 1x12, 2 x12, or 4 x12?

I would agree with several of the points previously made. IMO aesthetics matter for a rock band but so does the volume sweet spot. I would opt for a 4x12 slant w/ greenbacks for outdoor shows and larger stage/club shows and a 2x12 otherwise. If I had smaller heads I would opt for the vertical 2x12

    Marshall TSL60 owner's impressions

thanks for the replies. Yes to G12T75s. Tried it through a greenback cab also, but the relative mid scoop of the 75s seems to work a little better. I play a strat with a hot stacked single Anderson SD2+ mostly which isn't the clearest pickup but it works well with my DSL50 . Clean channel does...

    Marshall TSL60 owner's impressions

Hi, Just bought a TSL60 head and 1960A cab. The 3 channels and switchable reverb and fx are great . Clean channel sounds good. My problem is I want to play with lower gain - AC/DC , older Def Leppard etc and when I have the gain for either OD channel around 3 it sounds like I'm playing...

    DSL40C / 100H C19 Bright Cap Mod

Hey, I would recommend just clipping the cap leg as close to the cap as possible and just lift the cap body slightly to create an open. No risk to the pcb from desoldering that way. If you decide it's too dark you can clip the other side in the same way & have metal legs to alligator...

    JVM 410H vs. DSL100

I would add that I have played the jvm205, 410 and several dsl's. My present dsl sounds better than my prior one and can do a fine AC/DC (Malcolm and Angus) on the 2 channels after a bright cap mod to the red channel. For my tastes in tone, it sounds & feels better and more natural than the...
