Good afternoon, I have a Marshall AVT150 head and a AVT4x12 cab that I love the sound of. I gig this half stack every gig and it just works really well for the tone I want. However, most gigs I find myself scratching around in storerooms looking for a table to put the amp up on as I like it at my hearing level and not on the floor. So I thought I would get myself an extension cab. I would ideally like a 2x12 ext cab. Do they do one for the AVT? It would seem the 1960 cabs and the 1936 cabs are different dimension to the AVT.

Anyone know of one that'll work?

Otherwise it's into the workshop to build one.

Will an AVT412a cab sit on a 1936 2x12 ext cab securely?

Marshall made a "B" cab for those, there is a full stack of AVT412's on EBAY for cheap($310 shipped). I dunno if they sold the "B" cab separately, so it might be harder to find than an "A" cab.

I saw the B cab option but it's probably a bit overkill for me. A nice 1936 would be a better size. However, I've now seen a 1936 and a 1960a cab. So another question is, would this work...

AVT150h
1960a (jcm900 lead) cab
1936 ext cab

I'd go with a non-AVT cab, whatever you choose. I had that amp and the difference between that avt412 and a 1960a was insane, and I'd never have been able to go back.

Mr Broadsword : does the avt150 head fit on top of the 1960 using the proper rails for the feet to go into?

No, but it's fine. You can throw the thing down a flight of stairs and it'd work. Except you may have to plug in the out board again, haha. The avt head and cab are not as wide as the standard marshall heads/cabs. Looks fine though, and the sound is just killer.

years ago, I had an AVT50H running through an old Valvestate 4x12 (I previously had that paired with a VS100), and I chopped in the VS cab for a 1960, difference was night and day, the VS cab was an older one than your AVT cab but I can't imagine they'd be too different

I'd be interested in the tonal difference, would it be a smoother sound? less bass? more bass? fuller?

I'm tempted.

I've just had a brain wave moment of inspiration!

I don't know what type of speakers are in the AVT412a ?

I could buy 4x GT12T75's and swap them out... then build a custom 2x12 cab to sit underneath using 2x of the avt412 speakers.

:dude:

Don't forget you have to match the impedance of the two cabs if you're gonna run them both at once, and that running two cabs halves the impedance. IE: Plugging in two 16ohm cabinets at once will equal an 8ohm load on the amp. 2 8ohms = 4ohm load, etc.

I think he doesn't have that problem. His amp is solid state. Just keep the total impedance higher than 4 ohms and you are OK :thumb:

the head has 2 speaker cab sockets on it... 8ohm and a 4/8ohm

You don't have that problem brother. You can't set impedances on an AVT. You can run the following:

1 cab at 4 ohms (loudest, you are running at full power)
1 cab at 8 ohms
1 cab at 16 ohms (will not be as loud because you will no run full power)
2 cabs at 8 ohms (loudest, you are running at full power)
2 cabs at 16 ohms
1 cab at 16 ohms and 1 at 8 ohms together.

Just remember, no loads under 4 ohms and you are good!

great stuff, so a 2x12 using 2 of the speakers out of the avt412 cab should be a good job!!!

Hi Lee, used to run mine on 2x 1926 cabs.Sounded great. Taller than a 4x12 so, better sound projection. More cabinet volume (dimensions) and better bass than a 4x12. Also VERY portable and a choice of one cab or two depending on circumstances. Still have the AVT, and use same cabs with MA 50h. Very versatile. 1X 1936 standard and 1x vintage. Have since mixed speakers in both cabs so now contain one of each, diagonally opposed. Wicked!! Kev.
