So for those that don't know, that's Roy Smeck, "the Wizard of the Strings". Virtuoso guitar, banjo, and ukulele player.

The "Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe" was Gibson's second Signature guitar (after the Nick Lucas model).

Roy was a mega star from the 1920's through the 1950's. Stayed active through the '70s but no major hits in those later years.

When asked, Edward said he was unaware of Roy's tapping. Which is possible. But it's also possible that young Edward saw him playing on one of his many ''50s/60s TV appearances and subconsciously took note of the technique.

No disrespect intended -- Edward was an innovative genius who took tapping into new worlds. But Jeff Beck tapped a few notes back with the Yardbirds -- Edward expanded on it but didn't invent it.
