Don't touch the puppy...

Just ordered some metallic silver powder for testing... Whenever it shows up.

Dye test take two.

Scarlet over purple -

Scarlet over black -

The purple is too subtle, I'm liking the black better.

Black without the red would be better but this is just me !

Limited logo testing time as I only have a brass powder to tint the epoxy. I ordered some gold and silver with some table / art grade low VOC epoxy that hopefully will get here by the end of the week.

I milled in a quick M for this test and will do more when the other tints get here. This is sanded to 220 then the black dye applied and sanded back with 220.

Scarlet applied.

Lacquer on top.

It's a cool look but too stealthy for what I'm going for. Since I have some time it might grow on me. I over fill the areas as I've not had good success with under filling - which looks a bit brighter. Maybe with the new epoxy I can revisit that too. All of this is getting in the way of Git'er DONE!

Piping time for the 2203. It's been beveled, rounded, drilled and countersunk for screws.

Fitting the sides -

Attaching the top strip -

Fitting the bottoms -

And of course the gratuitous glamour shots -

Now the piping will be bleached and set aside for assembly after the face plate is dyed and sealed. On to dyeing and sanding the case whilst I wait for the !!**##!&*&^!!!! epoxy and colors I ordered way too long ago - listen to the old guy's first world problems...

I would have left it black. That was amazing. Sorry Russ, your project, but the black was awesome. Nevertheless, the red rocks.

Looking great!

What kind of lacquer did you use? And how did you apply it? Sanding in between?

Two coats / rubbings of black RIT dye.

After dyeing the black I decided to leave the inner edge around the face plate black and only do the scarlet on the front/rear edges, top & sides. I think it will be an interesting contrast.
