You are right. Speakers are really important. Here with a VM2466. Less bass.
What are XCs?

TBH I didn't like the G12H-75cc at first. My Dual now has a 90w Cream Alnico in it.Great amps the Astoria series. You are right the Custom has more gain. The Celestion Marshall G12H 75 CC speakers are Amazing with open back cabinets. I tryed face to face the Dual vs the Custom. Both great amps but the Custom it's the loudest.
I used a lot the Custom into a 1965A (4X10 140W 8 ohms) and this G12H -75cc. Using 4 ohms speakers output. The amp at max volume. It's just 30W. Before having issues with capacitors, power transformer, rectifier valves. I use solid state rectifier. It seems to have better reliability with diode rectification. If it lasts until the end of the year it will break all the statistics. I hope it doesn't break anymore. Recentlly I use the G12H-75cc with a JCM900 DR 4501. It's really broken It. Now It sounds great the G12H-75CC.TBH I didn't like the G12H-75cc at first. My Dual now has a 90w Cream Alnico in it.
I fitted the G12H-75cc in a DSL401 combo that I had lent out for awhile. I have that amp back now and the speaker sounds a lot better, now it's broken in.
The Cream Alnico is an amazing speaker with the Dual, only down side is the rear metal panel doesn't clear the back of the speaker, so has to be left off.
