I'm going to toss a concept out here. Feel free to agree or disagree. As we all know, that coveted early EVH sound was... tada! A MARSHALL. So therefore, it Marshall would release an amp that has that sound like the Iconic does, I'll bet it would sell like crazy. Many people say that the Iconic is a very much a modded Marshall sound, so why doesn't Marshall offer that?

Like I've always said, it's not about the AMOUNT of gain an amp has. It's about the voicing. For example, I hear people say that "the JVM has plenty of gain!" Sure it does, but it's not the sound I want and I'm sure that applies to a lot of people.

So come on, Marshall. Give us your take on the early EVH brown sound.
I agree it’s not about the amount of Gain/Distortion about the voicing, as James felt compelled to recreate a certain time but also to please the metal players. It might not nail exactly like a Early Plexi, Echoplex, 6-Band EQ, Variac etc. then it comes to technique and your hands. Marshall has long been vintage to modern history, a lot has changed with corporate strategy identity.

What your referencing is a “Engineered” Album. If your ever heard “solo tracks” that were not engineered, Ed sounds Very Different! (Tone wise).

The Iconic is like a “snapshot“ of Eddie’s early Studio days, with modern flexibility.
Again “Post some clips, rough or studio” just so I can hear what your talking about

For what we’re talking about the Iconic, I tried it at guitar center side by side with the Friedman BE 100 and I would take the Iconic hands down if it wasn’t made in china I would purchase it

You wanted to show your little amp as the "Best EVH Tone ever?" All I asked is a simple SoundCloud Clip, that in 5min you can post. "I want to hear your skill?"

And how much better your amp compares to the Iconic?
