In a word. No
I have some 1999 tubes that are still 100% and they sound fantastic. In A-B with a set I got just this week the old tubes win hands down.
Great.
Today I learned that the counterfeits not only exist in China, but appear to have originated in Eastern Europe.
I can never look at an old "Marshall" again the same way.
Just because that abortion has been removed from Ebay doesn't mean it's been removed from the collective.
Somehow, one day, that thing is going to end up in a Craigslist ad and sucked up by an unsuspecting buyer.
I get that batteries and tubes are miles apart but something crapping out from not being used is a common thing. As danman mentioned, not all amps will have the caps hot when in standby, so you MUST power up and come out of standby every few months to keep the caps refreshed.
I'm just wondering...
I hope the prices continue into the stratosphere.
Really, where I live a normal SFR is now $700,000. And that gets you a bungalow.
I have no qualms charging someone $4-5k, hell, even $10k for one of my vintage Marshalls.
I had a fair number of laptops where the lithium batteries died having discharged below the level of recovery. Needless to say I wasn't happy.
Now that I'm back into collecting and playing music gear I don't want lack of use to contribute to failure of potentially expensive and hard to replace...
Well, a Ceriatone board is out. By the time I buy it, pay the ridiculous freight (ships out @2.5kg. Really? an 8 ounce board and 8 ounces of parts needs 5lbs. of shipping material?), add the anal raping from UPS, the anal raping from duties and a final anal raping to convert it to my currency...
What I'm taking away from the discussion is this;
If the amp is working fine now and shows no hiccups after a prolonged high volume session at the right impedance chances are the OT is fine and not damaged in any material way.
What you do afterwards in terms of impedance matching is in your...
I recall my electronics teacher in grade 9 saying something to this effect. But someone then asked why if it doesn't matter are there devices with specific impedances. I don't remember his answer.
(I'm still figuring out multi-quote, I'm pretty much computer 'tarded.)
This, and the following answer are amazing information to know.
Why then, isn't is common practice to set the impedance selector switch at 4 ohms the day your new head comes home?
I know with SS, running the head into higher impedance effectively cuts the output power dramatically, example...
I did a search but my mind probably used the wrong terms.
Suppose someone has a 2203 and an 8 ohm cab but have set the head on 4 ohms. They gig and practice with it 4-5 hours a week and this has been going on about 7 years.
How long is it going to take before some form of OT damage happens...
It's supposed to be a reissue. Shouldn't it be in a cabinet style that was used when they were first made? All the images on google show a completely different style cabinet.

Ya, thanks
I don't know if amps will go obsolete. What happens then to the value of 57 Strats and 59 Les Pauls and all the other vintage guitars? They go to zero?
In 30 years my kids will be in their mid 40's and will either embrace the collection or have disposed of them. Since they are avid...
I was googling images of various Marshall head innards (talk about good pr0n), 800's , 1959's, 900's, 2000's, JVM's and it struck me like a brick.
Right now, today, we can get any Marshall head from any any era repaired to work as good as new. The older Marshalls are the easiest to repair as...
Google didn't help much.
Does anyone make replacement Marshall faceplates for the JCM 900, DSL, TSL amp lines?
What I'm doing is taking a DSL 401 chassis out of the combo box and mounting it in a head. Of course the writing will be upside down.
So, I want to put a faceplate on with the...
I tried multi-quoting. Another day maybe.
I'm taking the reading at the jack but I've got some pics now to upload once I figure how. (they are on my phone) that show the 8 ohm marking on the speakers and the cab.
I know the 12gt75 will get drowned out. For now I'm dropping 3 swamp thangs in...
