    FS: 1963 Vox AC30 Head, 1970 Marshall JMP 50, 2 x '72 G12L & 2 x '75 G12H

Hi Folks.....decided my old AC30 head has to go. It's a '63 copper panel and as far as me and my amp tech can see is totally original bar one very small resistor. These copper panel AC30 heads are extremely thin on the ground. I haven't seen another for years. Woden transformers and what I...

Help with 1967 Blackface Bassman Head

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help. Yup, it's the original OT so I gotta live with 4 ohms. As matter of interest, what actually gets damaged if you run a head through a cab with a different impedance?

Help with 1967 Blackface Bassman Head

I am picking up a 1967 blackface bassman head next week that will be used with a stepdown transformer as I'm in the UK. I intend to use a non-original cab with it and was wondering what ohms options I have? I believe the 2x12 bassman piggyback cabs ran at 4 ohms - can anyone confirm this? If...

    Marshall PA 20, 1970

Going to have to sell one of my amps and the PA20 has drawn the short straw. It's a 1970 amp and is in pretty amazing condition throughout. The amp was fully serviced by Marshall at Bletchley, Milton Keynes, last year including new valves. Marshall changed the mains transformer but...

    '70 PA20 - do I need to re-bias

Thanks guys, REALLY helpful! You both suggest JJs and strangely enough I've just bought a set of tubes for my '62 AC30 head from the US (I'm in the UK). They soumnd pretty damn good to my ears and believe it or not the tubes I took out are the original Mullards! I shall go for JJs for the...

    '70 PA20 - do I need to re-bias

Hi Hbach First of all many thanks for underlining that I need EL84s and not EL34s!! I now see that Demonufo said they needed to be EL84s but I stupidly assumed they were EL34s. Right, that makes good sense to me and as I'm taking my old Vox head to the guy that works on my amps next week...

    '70 PA20 - do I need to re-bias

Hi Demonufo Brilliant, thank you. To be honest I'm not technical at all, sure you guessed that :) so the reference to 'class' was simply down to my assumtion that 'class A' or 'A/B' meant that you could change tubes without re-biasing. Like in my old 50s princeton. So I can just whack EL34s...

    '70 PA20 - do I need to re-bias

I have a 1970 PA20 and I'm not sure if it's Class A or A/B or neither!! It only has the one on/off switch which made me think it might be A or A/B. Photos here: Marshall PA20 1970 pictures by surfguy13 - Photobucket The amp was serviced by Marshall but not sure how good the replacememnt...

    Anybody tried the Mullard Reissues?

Looking to re-valve my old '64 Vox AC30 and as it currently still has its original Mullards (pre and power) I was wondering if anybody had tried the Mullard reissues - either the 12AX7s or the EL84s?

    Re Kontakt 60 Switch Cleaner

I thought I'd share my experiences with Kontakt 60 switch cleaner. I have just been through my old '63 AC30 head as it was starting to get noisy; more noise than I am comfortable with when ticking over and also a bit of whooshing, well.....a fair bit of whooshing! I removed all the valves...

    Vib/Trem 'ticking' on 1964 AC30

Can anyone help with this? I have a '64 AC30 combo and I can't get rid of the ticking when the vibrato is turned up beyond about 20% - this is via the pot on the chassis that allows you to turn up, or down, the vib-trem. I have a '63 AX30 head and vib-trem works well with no ticking and I can...

    Which VOX AC30?? thanks

In the UK old Vox amps are quie widely available, as are old Marshalls. It really depends what you're looking for Marcos but the heads are MUCH cheaper than the combos as a rule. I've just bought an all original fully serviced '63 AC30 head in excellent condition but without the footswitch...

Re ohmage on '70 Marshall PA20

Hi guys Need some advice on a recently acquired Marshall PA 20 from 1970. No indcation as to what the ohmage is so looked at the OT and written in paint is 4, 8 and 16 ohms next to 3 tags. On my OT the 4 ohm tag is connected. So.....I'm assuming it's 4 ohms? Looks that way but thought it was...
