Favorite New Production Power Amp Tubes For Your Marshall Amp

I find some modern high gain amps have to clamp down on harmonics as the signal progresses through the preamp and although it gives you lots of gain you lose some of those delicate touch characteristics. This is done to give you lots of gain without the map becoming unstable. A jtm45 or JMP NMV...

Favorite New Production Power Amp Tubes For Your Marshall Amp

LOTs headroom and more crunch means Chinese current production tubes. They have tons of complex mids and high harmonics. But be warned their low price belies thier actual cost. 1. It’s not uncommon to have 25% failure rate either when new or shortly after. 2. Bias will drift for awhile. 3...

    Bought Cab with "other" speakers.

If they work for the way you play, I’d stay with them. Unless you are curious.

The Creamback I do not want to hate...

I agree the Creamback does roll off some of the highest mids/treble to my ear. I have one in my SV112 cab and it works well but that amp it’s crazy bright. If you think the cream is blanketed you might like a G12H anniversary. Bright, nice complex mids, but a bit tight in the lows. Great in...

Seventy 80, your favourite speaker, .... anyone ?

It probably is a good speaker, but doesn’t suit me. I’m comparing it to GREAT speakers like G12-65, G12-80, Blackback G12H, and T1281,T1511, T1221, T1271, with pulsonic cones. But ya, there’s way worse speakers than a V-type. My real gripe is that Marshall didn’t put a G12H heritage in that...

Seventy 80, your favourite speaker, .... anyone ?

I bought the Studio Vintage 1x12 Cabinet for $699! A seven hundred dollar 1x12 and it came with a freaking 70/80! I wanted that cabinet pretty bad, and I figure they’ll be rare some day because nobody would be stupid enough to spend that kind of money for a 1x12 with the sh!ttiest Celestion...

New guitar came with chip in neck and wenge fretboard with lots of little cracks. Return it?

Seems pretty nice to me. If you return it you’ll probably get one in not as good of shape. It looks about as well made a a guitar can be. If this minor character points bother you then ABSOLUTELY don’t buy a $6000 Historic Les Paul! They’re loaded with handmade character.

    1976 Marshall 1X12 Stage Monitors

OK those are SO COOL! And I just happen to have a pair of 1976 T1281 blackbacks for sale right now. Your cabinets and my speakers should get together and make babies.

    Marshall cab 1935B

Cool cabinet. I have a stack of 1935s from 1968 all original (except casters). My experience with the G12M-55 pulsonic cones is that they sound best at live band volumes. When played quieter they have this scoop in the upper mids that totally fills in when loud. For playing quieter I prefer...

    Taming a slightly bright 2203

Glad a simple change was enough. That happens often.

    The Kemper user thread

I’ll never say never. Hell there was a time when I swore I’d never play marshalls because I was using fenders at the time. (Long ago, lol) Hopefully I’ll get a chance to profile my own amps and dial them in someday.

    Taming a slightly bright 2203

Valves. If it’s full of current Chinese 12ax7s, those are really hot and bright. Personally I like them. You can quick test for a bright cap by playing at 6 then at 9-10. If it is significantly brighter at 6, then there’s a bright cap. There are so so many more places to tweak, but the...

    The Kemper user thread

Thanks for this. I tried a friends Kemper and could not get it to do the most important thing for me. I play plexis through vintage celestions in old Marshall cabs. Nothing too unique there. I also use a Powerbrake and dial the amp in with the volume about 6-7 so I get some bright cap...

    whats your favorite amp?

Fav current prod amp, SV20H I modded to shared cathode and bass preamp spec on like day two. I guess the warranty was good for a day. Of course playing it through a 1968 model #1935 cab is half of the tone.

    The Kemper user thread

This is good info. I’ve considered a Kemper specifically to profile my old plexis. If they don’t sound and FEEL like the original, I don’t need a Kemper.

Opinion... Marshall Studio Vs Friedman Pt

So much of the gain of a SC come from 6+ on the master.

Opinion... Marshall Studio Vs Friedman Pt

I don’t know the Friedman. But the studios are great. I think the SV would do early EVH better, but needs to be loud to get there. The SC will definitely do the rest of classic rock and early metal well. Good cab choice.
