Got my JCM800 back from the Tech

Thanks. I definitely will. I'm surprised how thick it sounded at lower volumes today. Even when it was brand new it didn't sound that good. But the pickup I have in my current main rock guitar is the Pearly Gates, which is hotter than what's in my SG Special, like a 490.

Got my JCM800 back from the Tech

Yup... You must be from the area then? Yeah, he's always come thru for me and couldn't believe how good of a deal he gave me today. He fixed my old analog Yamaha Flanger, fixed Phase 90, 3 preamp, 1 power amp, and I'm sure made some bias adjustments.

Got my JCM800 back from the Tech

I'm from Central NY, outside of Utica, and an hour or so from Syracuse. He's right off Genessee St. in Utica.

Got my JCM800 back from the Tech

Today I picked up my RI JCM800 from the local tech because it was making a wind/whooshing noise that would stop if I hit the head, and it was sounding unusually thin as of late... I posted on here what the tech told me was the issue (all preamp tubes were shot and a single power tube needed...

Getting back amp: Tech said this and would like input

I got in in 2003. I've had the power tubes swapped out by him in the past, and some minor circuit board work. This visit though had nothing but tube work.

Getting back amp: Tech said this and would like input

Is was making a noise, like a wind or whooshing sound, and when I would hit the side or top of the amp it would stop. The Preamp tubes in there were original with the exception of one. He said it was fine to just change one EL-34 for the time being as long as he set it up correctly. He said...

Getting back amp: Tech said this and would like input

I knew my JCM800 RI was having some issues, but didn't know the extent or how serious. H dropped it off and told him 'no matter what the issue is, put the highest gain 12AX7 you have in V1.' He called me back, said it was ready, and said that all 3 preamp tubes were shot and needed changing...

    Contemplating trading my '800 for a JMD-1

The preamp is digital and the power section has EL34s, so to get true tube tone you must have to crank it.

    Contemplating trading my '800 for a JMD-1

I played through one before, it sounded pretty damn good. I was contemplating the same thing actually, and I too have a JCM 800. The effects were pretty clean sounding and clear as well. I thought there was a plexi/super lead selection, I'm pretty sure that's one of the settings I used.

    Tips for JCM800 2203

Cranking Your Amps All the Way...

I've tried my JCM 800 at all Master levels while playing the the preamp. To me, When its between 8-10, it gets that to that really crunchy, thick, slippery tone, playing wise. I do notice a difference when I get to 4 and above, but it still sounds kind of light. When I get the master between...

How do you get to that site for the booster?

    Tips for JCM800 2203

I've had it for a few years, I've experimented with it plenty. Without a hot plate or antennuator, is there ways to crank it, play with the pre-amp and controls to get it to saturate more like a plexi tone-wise? I can get it close when I lay off the tone and presence controls, I put the master...

    1984 JCM 800 2203 master at 10 !!!

I've got a re-issue that I put on 10 all the time with No FX in front and a little slap back in the loop. It sounds like VH circa-1891 live. Almost like a plexi boosted with an EQ.

Recording Test #2 Plexi dimed (all 10s) + Strat

Sounds similar to Edward's tone on Van Halen II, and live EVH circa 1982.

Info On 50th Anniversary 1 Watt Amps

How do u achieve real power tube saturation when it uses preamp valves for the power section? Or does it really matter what type of tube?

    Official JTM1 50th.

There are no power tubes in it, which makes sense since its only one watt. Instead it uses a 12AU7 for the power section. Wouldn't it result in just a double preamp sound?

FX loops:Do we REALLY need them?

I use my amps overdrive, so echo out front doesn't sound great with a pushed amp. I use my phase shifter out front and flanger in the loop. Edward Van Halen slaved his amps so he wasn't running the EP3 in front of the amp, unless he was using it to give his tone extra mojo from the preamp (he...

*Sloppy player warning* Marshall JMD1 Sound sample

I tried one out in a local music store. It wasn't too bad. The tape echo and analog echo I used with it were pretty good as well.
