    6L6GC to KT66

I put Gold Lion KT66 tubes in my BB Reissue (it had 5881's). Ben Fargen also put a Mercury Magnetics transformer and upgraded the caps and tweaked the tone stack. The amp is just crazy good. Mine said 50 W Tremelo on the back plate, and my buddy has the same amp that says JTM45 in the same...

    90s 50 watt Marshall 2x12 Combo

I have the same amp, Bluesbreaker Reissue. Mine says "50 Watt Tremelo" also, but my buddy has one that reads "JTM". Mine is super clean and I had my tech upgrade it and put in KT66 tubes.

    Gibson price rant

I've wanted another goldtop since I sold mine off many years ago. I finally found a great one for a nice price. It was a 2012 Traditional Pro, in a great soft gold color with some greening. The original owner had done the mods I wanted: Duncan Antiquity pickups, 50's wiring, 500k pots (no split...

Are used Gibson Les Pauls Currently Overpriced?

These self-appointed "experts" on which years are good are off base. I've owned upwards of 20 Les Paul's in my lifetime and have found that no matter what the year is, there are duds and studs in each production cycle. I bought a 2021 Standard 60's last year, and it is a fantastic instrument. I...

    Attenuator Thread

Thanks for the offer, but that amp is staying with me. It's a special amp. Years ago I found an article from and amp tech in England who used a reissue to mod to something close to Clapton's Beano Bluesbreaker. I was able to get a schematic from the guy and took my amp to Ben Fargen to see if he...

    Attenuator Thread

I have two, a THD Hotplate, the purple 8 ohm, and a Marshall PowerBrake. I haven't used either since I retired from playing live. As I recall, the THD worked pretty well and I had to use the tone knobs on my Les Paul to adjust. The PowerBrake worked well on my Marshall Bluesbreaker reissue.

    Your Favorite Marshall Amp

I tried to upload a couple of photos but they seem to be too large. I don't feel like messing with it.

    Your Favorite Marshall Amp

Sorry but the file is too large apparently, it won't upload. I don't feel like messing around to post it.

    Your Favorite Marshall Amp

xMy favorite is my 1974x. It's a Special Edition to commemorate Guitar Center's 40th Anniversary. It's stamped 31 of 40. I've read that these have special grill cloth and maybe a special edition speaker. It sounds very organic and works perfectly for smaller venues.

Bought a used Vox AC30CC2, want to replace the Wharfedales. What are my options?

I have a 2x12" cab with Warehouse ET65's in it. It sounds real nice with my Vox AC15 head. Good quality and reasonable price.

    fav amp you own

By far my favorite non-Marshall is the Fargen 1584 that Ben sold me a few years ago. A one off amp, has a Trainwrek style post phase MV. Here is the link with embedded video of Ben playing it...

    Your favorite grab-n-go Marshall combo

Since I play mostly clean, my favorite for grab 'n go is my 1974x. Simple, easy to transport & set up. Great organic tones. Mine is one of the Guitar Center Anniversary models. When I've played at local blues jams my buddies would always ask to play it.

    Bluesbreaker reissues??

I have a Bluesbreaker Reissue I bought years ago. The back panel is marked: 50W Tremelo, and the top panel is marked: JTM. My buddy has a Bluesbreaker Reissue, and his back panel is marked: JTM45. They appear to be the same amp. I read an article a few years back by an amp tech in England. He...

Forgotten/Overlooked Diamonds In the Rough: lesser mentioned Marshalls

No mention of the 1974x? I dig mine, it's a Limited Edition Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Guitar Center. Mine is #31 of 40 made.

    Squire strats

I'm fortunate to have a number of nice guitars and usually keep a budget model handy at home sitting out. Years ago I discovered Squier Pro Tone guitars. Currently have a Strat that I picked up for $300. These are fantastic guitars and well worth what they go for.

PRS Guitars.......The Snob Appeal & Function

I remember when PRS first came on the scene. Loved the look and playability but no way could I afford one. When I finally could afford one I bought a beautiful 1991 Custom 24 in Amber Burst. I never liked the humbuckers and the Sweet Switch didn't do it for me. So I sold it off. Years go by and...

'62 Bluesbreaker RI, different versions of it?

Thanks JD, you are correct. I'm not sure of the year, but I bought it around 5 years ago from an older gentleman that played in a country band. The amp was too heavy for him so he sold it to me for $1100. The tubes cost $150 and the bill from Fargen was just over $200. You are correct about the...

    1974x

I see I'm a little late in the game here, but I'm a new member. I have a 1974x and a Bluesbreaker. While they are not the same amp, they each have their own thing. For local blues jams, small club stuff I bring my 1974x and run it at half way up. Sounds amazing with my Standard Faded Les Paul...

'62 Bluesbreaker RI, different versions of it?

It breaks up around 2-3 now AFTER the mods, with a nice slow gain as the volume is increased. I might also add that it responds to touch on the guitar a lot better and sustains like crazy, with a long volume decay. I like the tremolo, set it very slight and it gives a nice depth to the tone.
