EVER notice how many members, new and Experienced, (including yours truly), have gone over to the Digital side because of a Shitty discontinued JMD1 Amp?

It should make one think....

You have no idea of the Power of the Darkside.

Eventually, that's where most people will be. The processing power grows so much with every new generation or hardware. I really like the approach that Kemper took with their profiling amp, I just wish they had more resources to push the development further. For the record, I do not own a digital amp, only an FX box.

I have a Fender modelng amp, it does sound really good, it's 100w, has a Celestion speaker and gets the job done when I need to do something quickly. But I love my JCM and DSL and those are where I spend most of my time still. I don't even use any digital effects except in my modeling amp.

When I bought it I wanted to get a 6505 or DSL, but they didn't fit what I needed at the time, then I started looking for a Marshall modeling type of amp, like the Vypr and the Mustang, nope none there. So bought the Fender.

I have an old Digitech Genesis, and my Cubase has a pretty good modeller in it. They are fun to play with I admit. But nothing makes me feel the same as when those tubes warm up and start pushing out that tone. There is just nothing like it.

Modelling is still in a pretty early stage when you think about how long it took Marshall to get "that" sound. Tube amps had been out for awhile. I'm sure things will only improve with the modellers. Especially if that is where the market ends up being.

Call me an old dinosaur, but if I have to hook my amp up to a computer to get it 'dialed in' vs. tweaking knobs on the front, it's a fad and a toy if you ask me. The amount of time you spend 'dialing in' these digial amps could be spent actually playing! I am not just knocking it, I HAVE tried modeling amps and effects etc...I just resigned myself it's not for me. And it's not as if I couldn't understand the tech, as I'm an IT professional, I just don't think it sounds all that great over traditional stuff. If you like it, cool, all the power to ya, but I'll stick with my old technology tube driven plexi. ;)

Eventually all amps will be digital because they will sound and feel better than a tube amp. The only reason we're not there yet is the price points are still too high for the quality guitarists demand.

What would a 'JMD-2' cost today? And how close to a DSL-H will that be?

purely subjective, and I don't think it will ever reach 'across the board' status with widespread acceptance. Besides, then no one will want to shell out 3K for vintage tube amps anymore! :D

Pretty soon we will have a program that plays the guitar for us. We can just sit back and do the dishes while still "playing" guitar. Unless you have a dishwasher, then you can just sit back and watch the guitar.

What happens when you amplify the digital signal with a sweet EL34 power section? (JMD1)
